Outpatient (CADC, LPC or LSW) Substance Abuse Counselors are responsible for:

  • Conducts assessment and evaluation to determine scope and type of care needed
  • Develops comprehensive treatment plans
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings
  • Leads group counseling and education sessions
  • Engages client in one-on-one individual counseling sessions
  • Maintains confidential, systematic, accurate and timely documentation of client progress in Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Uses excellent communication skills to guide clients toward positive choices, especially when in crisis.
  • Monitors client behavior in therapeutic milieu
  • Administers tests of accountability through collection of urine drug screens and breathalyzers.
  • Makes community referrals for follow up care
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday including (2) evenings and (3) days, 8:30am-4:30pm and 12:30pm-8:30pm.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education and life experience, with a minimum of 100 hours of documented clinical training in counseling theory and practice required
  • Current certification as a substance abuse counselor (CADC) or higher licensure (LPC, LSW) in state of hire required
  • Minimum 2 years of previous experience in substance abuse or mental health counseling required
  • Related work experience with program specific population (adolescent/adult) and residential treatment setting required

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk and move about the facilities for up to two hours at a time, to monitor and interact with clients
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to receive, retrieve, and/or audit information and data
  • Ability to record, proofread and check documents and files for accuracy
  • Ability to respond to telephones, and to hear and detect alarms and unusual noises
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to operate a Gateway vehicle

 

Compensation (based on experience and credentials):

  • $25.64 - $32.28 per hour
  • Gateway Foundation conducts annual reviews including merit increases.
