Position Summary

Do you thrive under pressure? Does the idea of mastering complex financial landscapes ignite a fire under you?  If so, Harness is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Revenue Accounting to lead our revenue accounting and order-to-cash processes.  This isn’t for the faint of heart.  This pivotal role will report to the VP, Corporate Controller and be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely revenue recognition in compliance with ASC606, driving process improvements and automation, and leading and mentoring a high-performing revenue accounting team.  The Director will also collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors.  This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact in a fast-growing SaaS company.

About the role

     Expert in SaaS Revenue Accounting:

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and ASC 606 in all revenue accounting activities, particularly within a SaaS environment
  • Evaluate and document complex customer contracts to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatments
  • Assess accounting implications of new product offerings and pricing strategies
  • Maintain and consistently apply revenue accounting policies and processes

     Strong Leader and Collaborator:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing revenue accounting team
  • Lead collaboration with cross-functional partners such as Sales, Legal, IT Systems, Finance, and Product on contract reviews and strategic initiatives
  • Communicate accounting implications to stakeholders at all levels
  • Serve as a point of contact with external auditors

     Strong Systems Integration Knowledge and Dataflow Management:

  • Streamline processes and controls of the entire Order-to-Cash process
  • Ensure accurate system configurations of revenue accounting modules within the ERP system (NetSuite, Salesforce, and Stripe preferred)
  • Optimize revenue processes through automation
  • Lead month-end and quarter-end close activities, ensuring data accuracy across systems

About you

  • CPA (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years of relevant revenue accounting experience, Big 4 audit and SaaS industry preferred
  • Prior management/leadership experience in building and developing accounting teams
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and ASC 606, with a strong focus on the SaaS industry
  • Experience with revenue accounting engines (e.g., Stripe) and ERP systems (NetSuite) and CRM systems (Salesforce)
  • Experience in a public company environment or with the IPO process
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally and proactively identify accounting issues
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities
  • Experience leading the month-end and quarter-end revenue close process
  • Proven ability to lead process improvements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to work in the office 3 days a week
  • Experience with audit processes and liaising with external auditors

This is a hybrid role with 3 days on-site in our Harness San Francisco office.
