About the role

About the Role:

The primary purpose of this role is to autonomously conduct tests and interpret results in accordance with all internal and external standards, specifications and practices specifically for macro etching, hardness testing, heat treating and bend testing in the support of the manufacturing operation. This role shall be responsible for reviewing, writing and maintaining laboratory practices that meet or exceed industry standards, quality system requirements and the customers' specifications and needs. This role shall lead improvement efforts for the above test disciplines.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent; AAS or 2 years of college course work, specifically in Engineering, Materials Science or Metallurgy (preferred)

Areas of Knowledge: Direct hands on experience with laboratory equipment (Laboratory Furnace and Controllers, Data Logger, Hardness Tester, Bend Tester, Macro Sink, Saw); Good Laboratory Practices; Safe chemical handling and environmental waste management; Industrial Safety; Macro analysis; Bend and hardness testing; Manufacturing & Testing Flow and Sample Operations; Spreadsheet and Database; Sample Preparation; Laboratory operations, Quality Systems and Standards; Haynes Specific Computer Systems; Calibration Requirements; Mechanical Testing; Metallurgy; Metallography.

Skills: Mathematical; Organizational; Communication—both oral and written; Intermediate computer; Leadership; Time management; Conflict resolution; Process development, evaluation and improvement; Analytical; Problem solving; Measuring instruments; Planning; Auditing; Write, revise and follow practices; Data analysis; First aid/CPR/AED; SPC.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Attend the monthly supervisor safety meeting when directed. Conduct daily tool box talks, monthly safety meeting and monthly safety audit when acting as the Supervisor. Use proper PPE. Promote a positive safety attitude. Make suggestions to improve JSAs, CPDs and LOTO procedures. Demonstrate good housekeeping practices. Enforce proper use of PPE. Be observant of others’ actions and watch for opportunities to improve the safety of coworkers.
  • Effectively participate in the preparation of all internal and external quality audits of the Met Lab and other areas as directed.
  • Review all Product Reviews answered by the Manufacturing Engineers to remain in compliance with all standards/procedures.
  • Conduct studies and lead activities for improvement of current processes.
  • Participate in and coordinate PTP and IRR testing.
  • Perform, document and ensure PM and calibrations are current and compliant to documented procedures.
  • Follow documented procedures and SOPs. Comprehend specifications and have a thorough awareness of why things are done. Make suggestions for improvement of existing processes. Review, write and maintain SOPs and OCIs, as needed, to remain in compliance with accreditation bodies and customer requirements.
  • Conduct method audits, as directed, in compliance to SOPs.
  • Proficiently use the testing/certification system: test generation, results entry, sample tracking and etc.
  • Track and report on testing activities as assigned.
  • Assist others and be willing to receive additional training and accept change.
  • Function as a Temporary Supervisor, as needed.
  • Coordinate activities to meet priorities.
  • Identify and track down missing samples.
  • Contact maintenance or the supervisor, as soon as possible, when equipment goes down. Continue contact until equipment is repaired.
  • Maintain log books as required: macros, heat treatments, hardness checks, retest 3, nuclear and etc.
  • Plan activities to complete assignments as quickly as possible or to meet an established timeframe.
  • Work overtime (daily, weekend and holidays).
