Position Overview
The Sr Business Development Manager at Adaptive Biotechnologies plays a central role to support our growing biopharma business. We are looking for a strategic and results-driven individual who will bring industry knowledge, strong analytical skills, and a proven track record of deal-making in the life sciences sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to acquire, manage, and grow partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies that align with our corporate growth objectives. The current business development portfolio includes exploratory and regulated programs, high impact, multi-year collaborations, and translational partnerships with major biopharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. This individual will focus and contribute to three key objectives:
- Source, secure, negotiate and close deals with potential industry and institutional customers to leverage Adaptive’s technology platforms, capabilities and expertise,
- Develop and present new strategic partnership opportunities for biopharma portfolio growth, and
- Drive the search and evaluation process for new business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Independently lead prospecting, negotiation, and closing of new contracts and agreements with industry clients in alignment with corporate goals
- Work closely with the Director of Business Development to develop overall biopharma business strategies and objectives
- Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders at pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
- Conduct, and eventually lead, search and evaluation efforts, competitive landscape and market analyses, and provide actionable recommendations for new business opportunities
- Work cross-functionally, both internally in a matrix environment and externally, to manage and deliver deal commitments
- All other duties as assigned
Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other)
Required
- Bachelors + 12 years of experience (or master’s degree +10 years of experience) in Clinical Lab, Client Services, Business Development, Licensing, Strategic analysis experience, immunology, cancer biology, or relevant scientific discipline
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral), with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships
- Proactive initiative in communications and initiative in building strong relationships
- Highly proficient in negotiating and executing business agreements of increasing complexity
- Extensive experience working with internal/external multidisciplinary teams including R&D, Commercial, Legal, IP, Finance and Operations
- Demonstrated ability to proactively work with stakeholders, internally and externally, and leverage cross-functional resources
- Independent, collaborative strategic thinker with good judgement and a strong ability to solve complex problems
- Demonstrated success in a fast-pace working environment
Preferred
- MA or PhD in scientific discipline
- Industry background in diagnostics, biopharma or other life sciences company
- Direct professional experience in sales and/or business development in a healthcare setting
- Demonstrated evidence of success working in a cross-functional environment
- Strong knowledge and credibility in the oncology market
- Ability to understand and communicate scientific or technical information
Working Conditions
This position will be field based. It may require up to 20% travel from time to time, and a willingness to work according to global hours, as needed, based on global development activities.

Compensation
Salary Range: $143,200 - $214,800
