Description:

Responsibilities include organizing, coordinating and evaluating value-oriented laboratory services offered in an expeditious manner for quality patient care.  The manager is accountable for personnel staffing, training coordination, accuracy and timeliness of procedure performance, budgeting, materials management, regulatory compliance and evaluation of results within Laboratory Services.  Duties are to be done in such a manner as to apply and contribute to the St. Joseph’s Health mission and values. Must demonstrate the organization's commitment to sound ethical business practices as directed by the Corporate Compliance Office and approved by the Board of Trustees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree and certificate from a school of medical technology, histotechnology or cytotechnology, or any other culmination meeting supervisory qualifications of the NYS Department of Health.

  • Prefer certification by a nationally recognized clinical laboratory certifying agency.

  • Hold a valid New York State License from the Department of Education as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT), Cytotechnologist © or Certified Histological Technician (CHT).

  • Six Years’ laboratory experience required.

  • Good communication, interpersonal and organized skills.

Additional Qualifications (nice to have)

  • General laboratory experience

  • EPIC experience

  • Prior manager experience

  • In Collaboration with both the Medical and Administrative Director regularly evaluates the testing needs of the organization.
  • Evaluates methods/instruments from quality and cost perspectives.  Methods chosen are implemented in a timely fashion and evaluated as dictated by good laboratory practice and regulatory bodies.
  • Assures test results, quality control, and quality assurance data are reviewed timely to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Works collaboratively with other professionals throughout the organization.
  • Effectively assesses and improves work unit’s performance.
  • Demonstrates technical competence in bench work as needed, troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Effectively assists the Medical and Administrative Directors in monitoring and maintaining an efficient and effective laboratory which provides timely, accurate, and precise results to physicians for the optimal health care of all patients.
  • Establishes and maintains data required to monitor indicators identified.
  • Develops and maintains a system for proper reporting and investigation of incidents involving employees, patients and visitors.
