About the role

Role Description

The U.S. Region Occupational Health Lead provides and coordinates occupational health leadership services for Zoetis. This includes establishing governance related to occupational health requirements and initiatives to drive consistency and alignment across all Zoetis sites and functions.

The U.S. Region Occupational Health Lead oversees all occupational health colleagues and clinics in the U.S. across a network of manufacturing, HQ and Research & Development sites in the U.S., in addition to colleagues who work remotely.

The U.S. Region Occupational Health Lead manages the oversight of the U.S. occupational health programs, prevention strategies, manages work-related injuries and illnesses, preventative care and Injury prevention programs.

This role collaborates with Human Resources, Global Operations, Risk Management, Environmental, Health and Safety and other key business partners to drive a collaborative culture, maintain compliance and reduce risk.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and oversee implementation of occupational health governance and services that support the needs of the businesses and colleagues across Zoetis in the U.S.
  • Partner with Environmental Health and Safety and Human Resources to establish and ensure proper execution of guidelines, processes and procedures related to occupational health and wellness requirements and initiatives.
  • Partner with sites to ensure onsite clinics are maintained in accordance with policy; site services, contracted employees, contracts, and service level agreements are in place to meet Zoetis needs.
  • Develop and implement training programs for occupational health nurses and staff to ensure compliance and alignment across all Zoetis.
  • Develop and manage an Injury/Illness Case Management program including controlling off-site referrals and facilitating workers’ compensation and assists in the interactive process for short/long term disability cases, including FMLA, in close partnership with HR.
  • Establish a US occupational hygiene and medical surveillance program right sized for Zoetis. 
  • Assist in Biosafety and Industrial Hygiene risk assessments and program management.
  • Maintain a consistent approach to initial patient screenings (including patient history and physical) and diagnosis and treatment of occupational/personal injuries and illnesses.
  • Comply with legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintain a US based drug and alcohol program (including testing, pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random).
  • Provide (as applicable) and coordinate emergency response services and training (including first aid, AED, blood-borne pathogens, CPR).
  • Maintain and monitor patient data in electronic medical database(s), as applicable per standard protocols.

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in advanced Practice Registered Nursing (APRN); APRN Board Certification required.
  • Willing to obtain licensure in states where applicable and allowed.
  • COHN-S preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience in occupational health, ER or urgent care required.
  • Experience in ergonomics, acute episodic care, wellness care and counseling of adults required.
  • People leadership experience a plus

Technical Skills & Competencies Required

  • Proficient in the use of electronic medical record keeping systems.
  • Certified as MERT trainer or willing to obtain.
  • Ability to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses.
  • Skill in interpreting medical records, uncomplicated x-rays, spirometry tests, audiograms, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies
  • Experience dealing with COVID-19 situations.
  • Experience consulting with colleagues as it relates to occupational health and/or wellness situations to assess post-disability return to work cases and counsel on worker’s compensation matters.

Physical Position Requirements

  • The work conditions for the position are stationary with periodic standing, walking, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing throughout the workday.
  • Transferring patients and objects may be required.
  • This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity.
  • The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials.
  • The incumbent must be mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
