Ophthalmic Assistant
The Ophthalmic Assistant functions as a member of the healthcare team by providing basic ophthalmic, technical and clerical support to assist providers in providing for patient care, comfort, and safety. The individual will complete optometric/ophthalmic tests and measurements as ordered by the provider and will assist providers with procedures. The Ophthalmic Assistant performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health Systems’ (MCHS) mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality.
**The position title and pay range of this position will depend upon the applicants education, experience and whether certified or not**

Mon - Thurs; 7:30 am - 5:00 pm
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred/Optional: Graduate of a medical assistant program. Successful completion of a medical terminology course.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: Experience in a medical field or customer service experience.
Preferred/Optional: Experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position, which must be maintained in good standing:
Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association within three months of hire.
Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association at time of hire. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification awarded by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).

Certified Ophthalmic Technician
The Certified Ophthalmic Technician functions as a member of the healthcare team by providing a wide range of standardized and specialized ophthalmic procedures to assist providers in providing for patient’s care, comfort, and safety. The individual will document, score and record test results and present test data to the attending providers. The Certified Ophthalmic Technician performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health Systems’ mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Required: Successful completion of a medical terminology course within six months of hire. Employees in this job joining MCHS through acquisition may be grandfathered due to an education requirement variance.
Preferred/Optional: Graduate of a medical assistant program. Successful completion of a medical terminology course at time of hire.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: Three years’ experience in Ophthalmology.

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association within three months of hire. Certified Ophthalmic Technician certification awarded by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association at time of hire.
