Legal and Compliance Intern

Markel is seeking a 1st or 2nd year law school student with the right combination of initiative, and organizational and communication skills for the summer of 2024. In this internship, you will be working directly with our team to learn about insurance regulatory and legal requirements in a global, publicly traded company. You will have hands-on experience within Legal & Compliance operations with opportunities to review legal documents. This internship will also include special projects for which you will be expected to complete “real world” work deliverables.

Program summary

Program design

• Paid internship for full-time work from May through August

• Multi-faceted, cross-functional exposure providing opportunity to work within Legal & Compliance departments of Markel

• Exposure to the insurance operations of a publicly traded company

• Opportunity to execute actual work deliverables and contribute toward team goals

Desired qualifications

• Excellent academic credentials (GPA 3.0 or above)

• Insurance, legal or document drafting experience preferred, but not required

• Demonstrated leadership abilities and analytical skills

• Computer proficiency

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Property and casualty insurance market interest
