Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Supplier Capability Technician provides technical drafting, documentation, and engineering execution support for division‑level initiatives focused on capacity growth and cost reduction. Working under general direction within Division Engineering, this role applies established Corning engineering standards, drafting practices, and Change Management processes to support packaging and molding assets across internal manufacturing operations and external contract manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities
- Support division‑ and plant‑level initiatives focused on capacity expansion and cost reduction
- Create, revise, and maintain engineering drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor
- Apply and comply with Corning drafting standards and document control requirements
- Manage engineering documentation, revisions, and releases using Corning Vault
- Support execution of Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) in alignment with Division Engineering processes
- Utilize ETQ change management system to support quality and change management requirements
- Provide technical support for packaging and molding assets, including equipment and tooling modifications
- Collaborate with Division Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Supplier teams
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and engineering standards
Minimum Qualifications
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, with experience creating and interpreting engineering drawings and layouts
- Familiarity with engineering document control and revision management
- Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience in drafting or technical drawing roles
- Experience with Corning Vault and Corning drafting standards
- Familiarity with ECR, ETQ, and MCN/MCS processes
- Experience supporting manufacturing equipment; packaging or molding assets preferred
- Associate’s degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, or related field
Travel Requirement
- Travel required up to 20%, including visits to Corning manufacturing sites and external contract manufacturers
Expectations
- Applies standard engineering practices and procedures with limited supervision
- Demonstrates working knowledge of Division Engineering systems and Corning standards
- Supports multiple projects with defined scope and timelines
