The Medical Assistant Team Care – Breast Surgery serves as an integral member of the care team, partnering closely with physicians to enhance clinical efficiency and provide a seamless patient experience. In this role, caregivers perform comprehensive health maintenance reviews, gather and communicate patient history and chief complaints, and document visits in real time by serving as a medical scribe during patient appointments. Responsibilities also include assisting with clinical data collection, administering medications and treatments as directed by the physician, reviewing post-visit instructions with patients, monitoring physician in-baskets, and responding to patient phone calls. Through close collaboration with providers and the multidisciplinary care team, this role supports high-quality, patient-centered care while helping ensure efficient clinic operations within the Breast Surgery practice.

A caregiver in this position will work 8:00am to 4:30pm.
 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform a comprehensive health maintenance review and provide an oral report to the physician regarding patient history and chief complaint.
  • Scribe documentation of the visit into the medical record by remaining in the exam room with the physician as the patient is treated.
  • Review post-visit instructions with the patient.
  • Assist with gathering data under the supervision of the physician or nurse.
  • Administer treatments and medications under the direction of the physician.
  • Monitor physician in-basket and return patient phone calls.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited Medical Assisting Program
  • Military training as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
  • One year of experience performing basic, direct patient care in a similar setting
  • Current demonstrated clinical proficiency
  • Completion of a clinical externship. (Extensive clinical experience may be considered in lieu of formal clinical externship) 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross must be obtained during new hire period
  • Must be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute (assessed at time of application) or demonstrable personal computer keyboard skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • MA Certification
  • One year of experience with EPIC or related medical records system

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
  • May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
  • Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.
  • Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
  • Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires w
