The Secure Information Systems Department at Collins Aerospace is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical development leadership to an exciting secure system product line. The qualified candidate will have extensive embedded software experience developing on FPGA devices with a deep knowledge of firmware operations which drives the interfaces.

This position requires onsite presence in Morrisville, NC.  A current/active US Secret Security Clearance is required prior to start date.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record designing, developing/enhancing, and delivering robust embedded software solutions for FPGA devices to meet open system design objectives and technical performance requirements within cost and schedule constraints. They should also have experience building and deploying machine learning models on embedded platforms as a part of the embedded software solution. The candidate must be able to collaborate and effectively communicate software approach and design/implementation rationale to varied audiences including multi-disciplined engineering teams, project leadership, and peers.

Qualifications You Must Have 

  • Real-time, embedded software development experience with FPGA devices like the AMD Zynq or Versal devices.

  • Strong software and hardware debugging skills (e.g. GDB,KGDB, JTAG probes)

  • Expert in C development with understanding of embedded hardware application.

  • Proficient C++ Object-Oriented development.

  • Advanced programming (ie, multi-threading, shared memory, device drivers, linked lists, etc.).

  • Solid understanding of modern interfaces: Ethernet, PCIe, and other types of protocols Red Hat Linux Operating System development experience.

  • Several years of experience using BareMetal and RTOS, embedded Linux (kernel and user levels) is preferred.

  • Experience in the design, training, and implementation lifecycle process of various AIML models

  • Development experience within a DevSecOps/DevOps software factory/tools pipeline for continuous integration and delivery of software products.

  • Experience working with an Agile team/development process/tools.

  • Ability to document and effectively communicate approach, constraints, design, and rationale to various audiences.

  • Experience with embedded software design and architecture.

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.  

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Extensive knowledge in the system integrity domain.

  • SysML/UML Modeling tools.

  • Software or Systems Engineering Integration expertise.

  • Experience with creating software development cost and schedule sizing’s for new product and feature development.

  • Software development with various FPGA manufactures, devices, and architectures.

  • Experience creating device drivers.

  • Experience with MATLAB and its AIML toolboxes for embedded model deployment.

  • Desktop Application GUI design and development experience in Visual Studio/C#.

  • Test Application design and development for embedded systems.

  • M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
