Vascular Access MH & UH

A major responsibility of vascular access teams is to use knowledge regarding intended treatments or interventions and forecast vascular access needs of an individual patient. This role will be responsible for facilitating patient needs and assists with Interdisciplinary provider & physician collaboration. Working with nursing, pharmacy, CNS, and provider team. 

Objective: “What are the outcomes we are looking for?” and “Where are we going to be putting this IV?” 

Goal: To provide the patient with the safest and best optimal patient access in conjunction with INS standards and hospital policy. To provide the patient with the best vascular access. 

Nursing skills gained:

  • Ultrasound guided IV’s 
  • After a successful year off orientation, you will then learn piccs

Unit Culture Highlights:

  • Great culture. Get to go to all the units at Mh and UH hospitals
  • No weekends or call
  • Holidays are one winter and one summer pairing

Qualifications 

  • Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred. 
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. 
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
