Position Summary: Under general supervision, prepares a variety of menu items for hospital patient room service. Follows department policies to ensure high level of food safety and sanitation. Contributes to continual quality improvement of products, procedures and environment. This role reports directly to the respective Food Service Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares hot and cold food items for patient room service, café/diner and catering. Assists in the preparation of pre portioned, make ahead bulk items for patient room service menu
  • Delivers all food items prepared to designated serving area in an established timeframe and at the required temperature. Completes next day's preparation assignments. Routinely tests food for quality, appearance, flavor, temperature, texture, color and doneness
  • Follows established guidelines, recipes and procedures for age specific feeding and specialized diets. Assists in the preparation and execution of patient related food service such as Bader 5 meals and Child Life Functions
  • Daily responsibilities include the assembly and/or delivery and retrieval of patient trays in a safe and efficient manner. Utilizes tug robots to assist with patient tray delivery. Interacts with patients and their families for tray delivery and maintains a high level of professionalism and courtesy within patient facing interactions to promote the patient experience
  • Follows and monitors H.A.C.C.P. food preparation and storage procedures. Follows department policies and procedures for hand washing, hair restraints, cooling/reheating foods and taste testing
  • Stores, holds and transports cold food items at 40°F or below and hot food items at 140°F or above. Tests food temperatures with approved food thermometer and records in log.
  • Wraps, labels and dates all food items and stores in fridge
Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma / GED is preferred, and 6-12 months of similar experience is required
  • Ability to read and understand instruction and use math in food preparation and other duties
  • Skills to add, subtract and understand numbers, and make comparisons between numbers and letters
  • Comprehension of weights measures, recipe conversion and portion control to minimize waste
  • Trains junior staff
  • Customer service skills with ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain hospital policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or hospital employees
Certifications:
  • ServSafe Certification is preferred
  • MA Allergen Training or AllerTrain Manager Certification is preferred
Physical Requirements:
• Lifting and carrying patients/children/objects weighing up to 10lbs and occasionally 11-20lbs 
• Regularly stooping and bending
• Reaching and grasping objects below, above and at shoulder level
• Lifting and carrying patients/children/objects weighing up to 10 pounds
• Regularly grasping and fine manipulation with hands
• Regularly pushing and/or pulling non-motorized equipment e.g., stretcher, food cart, mop, etc., weighing 11 to 20 pounds
• Regularly proofreading and checking documents for accuracy
