About the role
The ICU RN Manager oversees the administration of patient care operations, including human resource management, operations management, facilities/physical assessment management, business center operations, and patient coordination in a hospital setting. Ensures high-caliber patient care and treatment.
- Oversees and participates in patient care operations.
- Ensures operational practices are continually improved through the development, implementation, and evaluation of continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensures compliance with institutional, divisional, and unit-based policies and procedures and external regulatory requirements.
- Provides financial oversight for supply inventory, equipment budget preparation, and implementation.
- Ensures performance to the annual budget by taking corrective action when appropriate or necessary.
- Develops, monitors, and enforces productivity and performance standards.
- Develops staffing plans and justifies incremental resources.
- Conducts accreditation readiness audits to assess compliance with standards and to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Remains current and proficient with regulatory requirements for the provision of clinical services.
- Manages department specific key performance indicators (KPIs) – quality, safety, and service.
- Evaluates the patient care delivery processes on a regular, systematic, and frequent basis, reporting findings to appropriate leaders.
- Participates in selection, scheduling, supervision, development, retention, and evaluation of employees.
- Provides timely guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem.
- Facilitates the development of a diverse workforce through recruitment, promotion, and cultivation of talent.
- Implements employee engagement activities, including unit-based practice councils and purposeful individual employee rounds.
- Assists with staff meetings, special projects, and the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement activities.
- Communicates data and solicits input from staff regarding performance and quality improvement, i.e., patient safety and infection control.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Five (5) years of professional nursing experience with at least one (1) in area of specialty
- Two (2) years in a supervisory role is required.
- Current Texas Board of Nursing (or Compact State) RN license; OR Temporary Texas RN License (Permanent TX license within 90 days upon hire)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, within 7 days of hire

Dental - Three dental insurance plan options are available for employees and their families through Delta Dental Insurance Company, two PPOs and one dental HMO plan. Both PPO plans allow employees to choose any licensed dentist.
Vision - Fully insured Vision Care benefits are offered by Superior Vision Services. Two vision plan options that offer either standard or enhanced vision benefits. Life Employees receive $40,000 of group term life insurance and $40,000 of basic accidental death and dismemberment insurance for free, with options to purchase additional employee and dependent coverage for both at group rates.
Retirement - Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.
Time Off - A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
- Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
- Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued
