POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Domestic Transportation, the Manager of Inbound Logistics is responsible for executing the logistics strategy from order placement through delivery to U.S. ports. This includes directing forwarders on carrier and lane choices; resolving shipping issues; managing shipments from over 350 vendors across more than 30 ports; controlling transportation costs; and providing top-tier customer service to merchant partners. The Logistics Manager will work collaboratively with merchandising teams, logistics service providers, FB EDI, and IT, and FB DCs to ensure that orders are transported efficiently from vendor facilities to the Five Below Ship Centers. This position also requires consistent and detailed communication between the supply chain and merchandising teams.

Job Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing the strategy for over-the-road transportation services to support the vendor-to-ship center operations, as well as transportation programs for store construction and corporate purchasing teams. The position requires collaborating with internal functions to improve processes and standardize operations. It also involves understanding business processes and identifying risks to develop and implement the industry’s best practices. Applicants should be able to leverage technology to enhance transportation processes. Ideal candidates will also have strong leadership skills to promote collaboration and compliance among internal stakeholders.

  • Manage the inbound domestic transportation network from vendor to shipping center for both collect and prepaid freight.
  • Manage store non-merchandise transportation (new stores, remodels, special projects) by partnering with Purchasing and Construction teams to drive efficiency and cost savings.
  • Create transportation programs to deliver 2024 cost targets and co-chair weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial review meetings to evaluate performance and opportunity.
    • 2024 Collect freight target of <6% of COGS
    • 2024 New store construction cost <$18,000 per store (average)
  • Develop and implement a vendor conversion program from prepaid to collect to leverage Five Below’s carrier rates and deliver the lowest possible landed cost for the business.

  • Ensure capacity, service, and cost commitments are met to support business objectives.
  • Leverage Manhattan TMS to drive process efficiency and cost controls.
  • Develop strategies and anticipate trends that enable improved network flows, carrier agreements, cost, and service.
  • Demonstrate strong people management and people leadership abilities by establishing roles and responsibilities with a focus on performance, accountability, and development.
  • Partner with the Director of Domestic Outbound Transportation on opportunities to leverage carrier contracts.
  • Strategize with VP to design and lead annual RFP processes for domestic transportation.
  • Develop and maintain operational metrics and KPIs focused on service level and cost goals.
  • Develop and implement scalable best practices and SOPs to support the rapid growth of the business.
  • Manage transportation provider relationships via regular business reviews, reporting, and expense management.
  • Coordinate special projects with the purchasing team and ship centers to deliver the most cost-effective non-merchandise delivery program.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of operational experience, including at least 2 years of managerial experience. Previous leadership in distribution center transportation operations preferred.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of logistics, distribution, and supply chain processes.
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to identify and implement process improvements.
