Job Description

SUMMARY:

As the point of first contact for UR Spider Shop customers this position is responsible for providing customer service, assistance with daily store operations, and cash handling responsibilities.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Customer Service and Store Operations: (50%)

  • Performs all routine functions one would normally find in a retail operation, including:

    • Maintains presence on sales floor, assisting customers and staff with merchandise information

    • Provides information to patrons regarding pertinent rules, policies, and procedures related to cash and cash related transactions; directs patrons to proper offices, as appropriate, to seek resolution of problems beyond the information available to the cashier

    • Assists with merchandising and stocking merchandise

    • Participates as a member of the bookstore team in ensuring that all areas of the store are neat and clean, supports and staffs store events as needed, attends team meetings and participates in bookstore projects as requested

    • Answers telephones

    • Trains employees, as needed

  • Additional related duties as assigned

Cash Handling: (50%)

  • Operates point-of-sale system. Accurately rings up sales using a variety of payments; makes correct change; issues receipts

  • Verifies cash drawers

  • Organizes daily receipts paperwork (cash deposits and reports)

  • Complies with all established standards for handling cash, credit, records, and the like. Ensures confidentiality of university and customer records

  • Processes paperwork and billing, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated analytical skills

  • Demonstrated customer service skills

  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism

  • Working knowledge of retail operations environment and point-of-sale systems

  • General knowledge of cash management principles and procedures; ability to comply with cash/credit compliance standards

  • General computer knowledge and ability to learn new software

Education & experience

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required

  • 2 years of experience cashiering preferred

  • 1 year of experience in retail customer service preferred

WORK HOURS:

  • Part-time; non-exempt; temporary position (will work no more than 6 months).

  • Schedule varies based on department needs but will work no more than 19 hours per week.

SALARY STRUCTURE:

Pay Grade 1 (Hiring Range $15.00 to $17.79 per hour)
