About the role

Job Summary

The Global Category Director is responsible for developing and managing a global team this is responsible for the strategic procurement of indirect materials and services across the Pharma Solutions business. The team will be located in the US and Europe in support of operations in those regions. The ideal candidate should be a strong leader with ability to motivate a team through a changing environment. The individual is accountable for the management of material & services costs and performance of their full portfolio, including establishing the sourcing strategy and setting strategic objectives, while optimizing their supplier portfolio. The individual will manage relationships with team members, key suppliers and internal stakeholders to, ensure alignment with IFF business objective. In addition, it requires extensive internal interaction with key functions including Regulatory, R&D, Quality, Commercial, Technical Program leads and Corporate functional leads (Finance, HR, Legal etc). This position contributes to key company, functional and global business strategies and cost initiatives, directly impacting the company’s margins.

The job function requires global external interactions with suppliers and extensive market/network knowledge.  The portfolio will include the following sub-category:

  • Logistics
  • Energy
  • Packaging
  • Maintenance Repair & Operations (MRO)
  • CapEx
  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Corporate Materials & Serviced (CM&S)
  • Laboratory Supplies and Services
  • Facility Services

The role is expected to achieve year over year savings in the cost of material & services, continuous improvements in working capital, supplier development, sustainability programs, and collaborating with suppliers to drive innovation programs.  He/She will be a valued business partner across the organization and support initiatives to achieve the company's strategic objectives.

 
Responsibilities

  • Develop a team responsible for the global procurement of Indirect materials and services for the Pharma Solutions business
  • Support the organization and lead the transition of the Indirects platform to the future company (pending transaction with Roquette)
  • Develop strong sourcing capabilities within, that support the organisation in delivering successful procurement strategies
  • Maintain connections with the main internal stakeholders to understand demand and future trends in their needs.  Support the procurement team in understanding and addressing these needs
  • Implement strategies within the team’s portfolio, driving results and achieving strategic objectives. 
  • Execute a disciplined application of the strategic sourcing methodology: Perform continually spend analysis on assigned categories and sub-categories, assess market intelligence, and develop full market analysis, Identify and approve new vendors to diversify supply portfolio.
  • Understand and apply the principals of SRM within the team’s categories: Develop new and existing supplier partnerships and collaboration to support growth strategy with innovation and technology, support technology buying by accessing supplier capabilities and reduce non-value-added suppliers.
  • Provide continuous impactful communication to stakeholders. Be the advocate of the procurement team.
  • Resolve vendor performance issues and negotiate claims, when necessary.
  • Ensure coordination between regions, where appropriate.
  • Optimization and continuous improvement in service quality through collaboration with the stakeholders.
  • Reduce working capital through payment term negotiation and collaboration with the stakeholders on long terms plans & initiatives.

Job Requirements

  • Experience in leading a diverse team preferably across different regions (5 years)
  • Recognized expert in the procurement area of responsibility with deep understanding of materials, services and contacts in key markets
  • Must be able to prioritize & delegate effectively under pressure.
  • Related supply chain or corporate function services experience in the space operating around suppliers, supplier relationship management and best practices
  • Strong knowledge of business practices and financial concepts/impact/analyses
  • Bachelor, or master’s degree, preferably in Business, Engineering, Economics or Supply Chain. Chemical background a plus.
  • Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communications.
  • Negotiation skills and experience (> 15 years).
  • Minimum 3-5 years in procurement in relevant categories.
  • ERP (SAP/Oracle) knowledge
  • Experience in the Pharma, Chemical or related industry including an understanding of associated regulations
