Project Overview
Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. Bechtel currently manages the Mobile Launcher 2 project at Kennedy Space Center, FL. This project is the design and construction of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) for the Space Launch System (SLS).
Position Summary
This position may be required to work a schedule of rotating shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays. All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for the duration of their assignment. Candidates must possess right to work in the US without sponsorship. The candidate must obtain/maintain unescorted access to the Kennedy Space Center throughout project duration. Candidates must be physically fit and able to work at an active construction site. This is an entry level Field Engineer position that will start with Advance Work Packaging and will transition to Field Engineering as the project progresses into construction. This position reports to the Lead Discipline Field Engineer (LDFE).
Responsibilities
- Scoping and developing Installation Work Packages and Test Work Packages ahead of construction execution.
- Supporting Field Supervision and craft personnel with material and technical documentation for permanent plant and temporary construction installations.
- Assists construction supervision in planning construction methods and procedures. Coordinates engineering or construction problems with superintendents.
- Interprets design engineering drawings and prepares construction working drawings for the use of superintendents for temporary construction facilities, field sketches of revisions, and additions and related vendor drawings/installation drawings.
- Prepares material requisitions.
- Performs field inspections and validates approvals thru signature.
- Tracks commodities on quantity tracking systems.
- Prepares field change notice, non-compliance notices.
- Monitors and verifies installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with issued drawings and specifications.
- Assists discipline field engineers to complete tasks as a discipline team member.
- Supports LDFE for added responsibilities as assigned.
Qualification and Skills
Basic Qualifications
Level 1:
- Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience in construction, engineering, or engineering related field, or in lieu of a degree, 7 years of progressive directly related experience.
- Knowledge of construction activities relating to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and technical database applications.
Level 2:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, or engineering related field and 3 years of related experience in construction, engineering, or related field, or in lieu of a degree, 9 years of progressive directly related experience.
- Knowledge of construction activities relating to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and technical database applications.
