Summary

The Parks and Facilities Maintenance Division (PFMD) oversees the facility trades and grounds maintenance of park assets, pool operations, custodial services. It includes the Special Events Team (SEV), which is responsible for delivering, setting up, and picking up event equipment in support of Park and Citywide programs and services. The PFMD maintains Seattle Parks & Recreation facilities across the City, including 26 community centers, 8 indoor swimming pools, 2 outdoor swimming pools, 4 environmental education centers, 2 small craft centers, shelter houses, and rental facilities, and much more. Furthermore, the PFMD is comprised of maintenance laborers, lead workers, and supervisors who work together to ensure safe, clean, accessible, and welcoming public community spaces.

The PFMD is currently seeking qualified, motivated, and collaborative individuals to fill Temporary Less Than Half Time (LTHT, 900 hrs.) Maintenance Laborer assignments to support our Special Events Team (SEV). 

As a Special Events Team (SEV) Maintenance Laborer, the person in this role will support the SEV maintenance team during peak season demand by performing daily delivery, setup, and pickup of event and recreation equipment, office furniture, supplies, and other public property across various park and city facilities and non-city sites. They will work both independently and as part of a small team, taking directions from the Parks Warehouse Supervisor, General while at times also communicating directly with staff, patrons, and community center coordinators, and city officials to determine and prioritize facility needs.

SEV Maintenance Laborers take pride in delivering excellent customer service to a diverse public audience including youth, seniors, and members of underrepresented communities. They are accountable for completing assigned tasks on time, maintaining accurate warehouse and supply inventories, and being responsive to Work Order requests.

This position is temporary and non-represented.

Examples of duties

HERE IS MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

All work is performed in a public setting requiring positive interaction with a diverse audience including youth, teens, seniors, and those of underrepresented and disadvantaged communities.

Daily tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Provide support for events and programs: set up/take down chairs, tables, and equipment.
  • Maintain supply and equipment inventory.
  • Create maintenance reports.
  • Communicate effectively with lead workers, supervisors, patrons, staff, and community centers coordinators to determine and prioritize facility needs.
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Successful candidates will be able to work independently and in small teams with minimum supervision requiring good organizational skills. They must be able to prioritize work, meet strict deadlines, and report out on completed tasks.

LTHT Temps will support sites with increased operation and programming needs; including but not limited to the following locations: 

  • Magnuson Park, Westbridge (West Seattle), Camp Long, various Community Centers across Seattle, and more.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:

At least one year of experience performing general laboring/manual work involving the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of public facilities (Combinations of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).

License, Certification and Other Requirements:

  • A current, valid Washington State Driver’s License

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Other:

  • Shifts can start as early as 4:30AM
  • Variable shifts can end as late as 9:00 PM
  • Will be working days and weekends as needed City Wide with a wide range of hours.
