About the role

At PicnicHealth, we're building the future of non-interventional clinical research, powered by AI and centered on patients. Our mission is to make it radically easier, faster, and more affordable to generate high-quality real-world evidence. We're replacing the legacy, services-heavy model with a modern, AI-first approach that unlocks insights from rich, multi-modal data—from clinical notes and imaging to lab results—at scale.  By engaging patients directly through our personal health assistant, PicnicAI, which meets them where they’re at and delights them along the way (with an industry leading NPS of 76), patients participate actively in the research they care about.

PicnicHealth is already a trusted partner to 7 of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies. Our work spans 40+ disease areas and has supported over 60 peer-reviewed publications, including an FDA submission that incorporates PicnicHealth data.

Founded in 2014, we’ve raised $100M+ from top investors like Amplify Partners, Felicis Ventures, B Capital Group, and Y Combinator. Our business running non-interventional studies more than doubled last year, and we’re growing even faster in 2025. We’re a team of doctors, patients, data nerds, engineers, and builders, reimagining how clinical research works — and we’re just getting started!

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Biostatistics Lead to lead and scale the biostatistics function at PicnicHealth. You will be the subject matter expert responsible for establishing best-in-class processes, mentoring a growing team, and directly impacting the scientific rigor and success of our non-interventional research studies. This is a role for a player-coach who is excited to build a tech-forward team that delivers high impact results for our life sciences partners.

At PicnicHealth, AI is at the core of everything we do. We're looking for individuals who are not just comfortable with, but genuinely excited by and actively experimenting with, the power and potential of AI.

What you’ll do:

  • Own the biostatistics function within our delivery team, including managing and scaling a high-performing team of biostatisticians to meet the demands of our growing non-interventional study portfolio that leverages both primary (e.g., PROs, ClinROs, wearables) and secondary data (e.g., medical records, claims).
  • Define and implement the operational roadmap for Biostatistics, establishing the standards, processes, and best practices for delivering efficient, high-quality statistical deliverables.
  • Serve as the lead biostatistics partner to internal teams and external clients, providing expert consultation to shape study strategy and build long-term, confident partnerships.
  • Provide senior strategic oversight for all client-facing statistical matters, taking ultimate accountability for resolving methodological challenges.
  • Champion and integrate AI and other novel technologies to enhance analytical capabilities, drive efficiency, and establish our team as an industry leader in tech-forward research.
  • Act as a player-coach, rolling up your sleeves to lead and execute complex analyses on key projects while the team scales.

What You’ll Bring:

  • An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 10+ years of experience in biostatistics within the life sciences (pharma, biotech, CRO), with at least 5 years of direct people management experience.
  • Deep expertise in statistical methods for observational and real-world evidence (RWE) studies, particularly in the application of causal inference methods (e.g., propensity score matching, marginal structural models) to design and execute complex analyses like external control arms (ECAs), along with advanced techniques for handling missing data.
  • Proven ability to lead consultative interactions with senior client stakeholders, with exceptional communication skills, executive presence, and the ability to instill confidence.
  • Deep expertise with multiple real-world data sources (medical records, claims, wearables, PROs, ClinROs).
  • Expert proficiency in R and the tidyverse; experience with SAS or Python is a plus.
  • Experience with regulatory interactions (e.g., FDA, EMA)
  • Familiarity with clinical ontologies (e.g., ICD, RxNorm, SNOMED, LOINC, MedDRA, WHO-DD) and standard data formats (e.g. OMOP, SDTM, ADaM).
  • Demonstrated experience building or scaling team processes, including creating SOPs, standard documentation, and QC/review workflows.
  • Focus on and successful experimentation with, integrating AI into your standard practi
