About the role

 As the Powerhouse Technician, you will be a vital member at one of our Alaskan processing facilities responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power generation equipment at the processing plant. You will monitor equipment performance, troubleshoot issues, generators, pumps, and other mechanical systems. Additionally, you will adhere to safety protocols, conduct routine maintenance, and will be involved in energy efficiency initiatives to ensure optimal plant performance. 

Essential Functions/Qualifications  

The responsibilities of the position include the following:  

  • Responsible for all Inspections and watch on Power generation and electrical systems within the plant.  
  • Maintain and keep accurate and precise log records pertaining to the daily needs and critical parameters for troubleshooting and regulatory needs. 
  • Upload SPCC, EPA and ADEC required tasking information to our corporate CMMS system.  
  • Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, and gauges. 
  • Instructs operators and other Powerhouse employees in procedure and protocol.  
  • Delegate all tasks with Chief Engineers approval.  
  • Read meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, and fluid levels, water chemistry to verify operating conditions.  
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all areas of the generator plant and control and electrical rooms.  
  • Perform capital project and/or major program responsibilities as well as any other tasks deemed necessary by Chief Engineer.  
  • Operate and maintain a Combined Cycle power generating facility equipment with minimal guidance or assistance as directed by and in coordination with the Chief Engineer.  
  • Identify and resolve CEMS problems. Assist in calibrations and gas bottle change outs.  
  • Keep the Chief/Assistant Chief fully informed of unusual plant conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations when assigned on-shift.  
  • Responsible for ordering chemicals through established vendors.  
  • Utilizes the facility’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).  
  • Work with the inventory Clerk in managing the plant’s inventory, performing audits as needed.  
  • Responsible for opening and closing circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.  
  • Outage planning and scheduling involvement.  
  • Assist with development of Operations and Maintenance procedures.  
  • Assist with administering the Operator training program.  
  • Assist with performing Root Cause Analysis of failures.  
  • May operate heavy equipment such man lifts and forklift.  
  • Perform water chemistry analysis on HRSG, auxiliary boiler, and cooling tower systems.  
  • Ensure water chemistry is within proper control ranges.  
  • Adjust water chemistry, as needed, by controlling chemical feed and/or blow-down rates.  
  • Work with plant chemist, OMT’s and water treatment vendor to properly monitor overall chemistry program.  
  • Obtain all plant environmental permits as needed. 
  • Other duties are to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

  • Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems in powerhouse equipment.

  • Emergency Response: Knowledge of emergency response procedures for power outages and equipment failures.
