About the role

Inova Fairfax Hospital's Main Tower PACU is currently seeking a Registered Nurse Fellow (experienced RN interested in changing specialty to PACU) for the August 19 cohort.  This dynamic perianesthesia care unit (PACU) serves a wide variety of surgical patients from the ambulatory to those requiring critical care, including level one trauma patients.  The surgical population includes ENT, general, colorectal, neurosurgery, orthopedic, plastics (both cosmetic and trauma), thoracic, transplants, and urology.  We serve the entire age continuum from the pediatric to the geriatric patient with the majority of patients being adult. 

Our Registered Nurse (RN) Fellow will participate in the upcoming 16 weeks Perianesthesia Nurse Fellowship in which you will be oriented to all phases of care, Pre-Op, PACU. After completion of orientation, the selected candidate will be required to take call as per unit scheduling requirements. Attending six mandatory seminars from August through December along with minimal time off during the first four months is required. 

Fellowship Start Date: August 19, 2024

There are mandatory seminars in this program September-December.

Inova Health System’s Perianesthesia Nurse Fellowship program encompasses evidence-based nursing care for patients undergoing surgical or interventional procedures during the pre- and post-anesthesia phases of care. This dynamic program is guided by the American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses’ Mosby’s Orientation to Perianesthesia Nursing curriculum, and combines hybrid (online and in-person) education together with unit based clinical mentorship.

Requirements:

  • Must have 1 year or more of registered nurse clinical experience
  • Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associates Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 24 months of start date
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification issued by the American Heart Association is required
  • RN licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Proficient in English, strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skill and the ability to display a caring demeanor towards others
  • Proficient computer skills required
