About the role

The Flex Staff Hourly employee is a variable one, ranging from entry level clerical support to professional (non-licensed), engaged by a department on an as-needed basis, compensated on an hourly basis. Flex Staff employees also include those who retired or terminated from a full-time position, brought back to perform their role on a part-time, temporary basis, often to support or orient the replacement employee.

The Institute for Genomic Health (IGH) is a recruitment site for the Human Pangenome Reference Consortium (HPRC), an NIH-funded effort to build a next-generation human reference genome that better represents global genetic diversity. IGH recruits BioMe Biobank participants to contribute samples to this project.

The Flex-Staff Research Assistant will support participant outreach, enrollment, sample handling, and data management for HPRC recruitment activities within the BioMe Program.

  • Contact BioMe participants to introduce the study and assess interest in participation
  • Explain study procedures and coordinate next steps with the research team
  • Document recruitment outcomes and communications
  • Prepare, label, package, and track DNA biospecimens
  • Maintain accurate specimen and logistics records
  • Enter and manage data in REDCap
  • Conduct routine QA/QC reviews
  • Support general study operations and coordination with research and clinical staff

There may be opportunities to assist in other IGH-related clinical and translational study work, as appropriate. 

  • Depending on the role, a minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required as per MS Health System hiring policy. Otherwise, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D as applicable.
  • Experience relevant to the position.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a tea

    Preferred

  • Experience with REDCap or clinical research databases.
  • Prior research or patient-facing experience.
  • Interest in genetics, genomics, or clinical research.
