Principal Software Engineer

Foley is looking for an exceptional Principal Software Engineer with extensive experience in Software Architecture, Delivery Automation, and foundational programming patterns and practices to help bring Foley forward in its software development and deployment practices.

As the Principal Software Engineer at Foley, you will be the key driver in setting the direction of our software architecture and patterns, evaluating current and prospective tools and technologies, and generally helping to grow the team around you!

The compensation for this position starts at $165k

WHAT YOU WILL DO

In your first 30 days, you will

  • Learn how Foley’s products and services work and how Foley can have a positive impact on our customers’ business.
  • Meet and get to know your teammates and stakeholders of our engineering organization.
  • Understand our processes, procedures, and tools for development and deployment.
  • Attend and participate in architecture and engineering roundtable discussions.

 Within your first 6 months, you will

  • Help establish a plan for how Foley can improve its technological footprint.
  • Become an SME on one or more of our products.
  • Directly manage 2-3 engineers.
  • Work across technology groups to assist in the design and development of our delivery processes.
  • Evangelize and train engineers on contemporary design patterns, cloud-native technologies, and the latest advances in existing toolsets (i.e. .Net Core), et al
  • Pull the cover off black box technologies and push for the de-siloing of development efforts.
  • Serve as a thought leader in technology and architecture in general.
  • Act as a leader in promoting a culture of safety, collaboration, and inquisitiveness.
  • Implement configuration and customizations to support business processes and development team needs.
  • Work with internal and development teams to ensure issues are resolved promptly.
  • Help curate and advocate for Foley’s application development standards.
  • Collaborate on new application development and provide technical and architectural design guidance.

WHAT WE’D LIKE YOU TO HAVE

  • Exceptional grasp of fundamental engineering concepts
  • Consummate teammate – shares ownership and invites criticism.
  • Passion for developer experience.
  • Experience in and extensive knowledge of Scrum or Agile development.
  • Strong analytical and diagnostic skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent understanding of building and running .NET software within a cloud environment, especially AWS.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud-native technologies and patterns.
  • Experience using infrastructure as code tools and products.
  • Working knowledge of container and orchestration technologies.
