Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Machine Shop / Facilities Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our machine shop and maintain the overall functionality of our manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining, equipment maintenance, team leadership, and facility management. This role is critical to ensuring that production goals are met while maintaining a safe, efficient, and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Shop Management:
- Supervise and coordinate activities of machinists, CNC operators, and technicians.
- Plan and prioritize workflow to meet production schedules and ISO9001 standards.
- Monitor machine performance and coordinate maintenance or repair needs.
- Implement and enforce shop safety procedures and quality control protocols.
- Maintain inventory of tools, materials, and machine parts; coordinate with purchasing as needed.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams on tooling, process improvements, product development and production planning.
Facilities Management:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of the facility, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and building systems.
- Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs for all facility equipment.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other safety and environmental regulations.
- Coordinate facility upgrades, remodels, or construction projects as needed.
- Manage vendor relationships for contracted services such as janitorial, landscaping, security, and building maintenance.
Administrative and Leadership:
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, including capital and operational expenditures.
- Lead and mentor staff; conduct performance evaluations and recommend training and development.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and cost reduction.
- Maintain documentation related to maintenance schedules, inspections, and compliance records.
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Facilities Management, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining, manual machining, and fabrication processes.
- Experience with facility systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, compressed air, etc.).
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing and 5S principles.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily on-site role in a manufacturing plant environment.
- Exposure to loud noises, machining equipment, and occasional physical labor.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various positions (standing, walking, crouching).
