Summary

This position is located in Newhalem, WA which is 125 miles away from Seattle in a remote area. 

Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. 

Seattle City Light is seeking a Store Clerk at our Skagit General Store. The Skagit General Store is located in Newhalem, WA, right in the heart of the Skagit Hydroelectric Project. The general store serves a customer base comprised of City Light employees, local residents and tourists. Tourists are generally seasonal, the general store experiences its highest visitor traffic in the peak summer months. This position will report to the Store Keeper.

Examples of duties

  • Greet customers; respond to requests for information about the merchandise and the general store area. 
  • Operate a cash register, totals sales, and collect payment from customers.  
  • Restock shelves, coolers, freezers, and display cases; wraps and marks produce and meat.  
  • Receive merchandise, checks invoice for proper amount and correct price; unloads and stores merchandise.  
  • Clean floors, display cases, shelves, and coolers; defrost freezers.  
  • Assist the Store Keeper in determining orders, pricing merchandise, and taking annual inventory of stock.  
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.  
  • Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time. Required to lift heavy objects.  
  • Required to work varying hours including work evenings, weekends, and holidays.  

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a minimum of one year retail store experience (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).


Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time. 
  • Required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Required to work varying hours.

Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to work independently.  
  • Experience working with a computerized cash register/inventory management system.

Supplemental information

The full salary range for this position is $27.65 to $32.15 per hour.
