OBJECTIVE:

The main objectives of this assignment are to:

1. Strengthen the capacity of young people and youth-led groups to design, implement, and measure the impact of grassroots climate actions.
2. Support the implementation and monitoring of the EGYouth 4 Climate Caravan and other youth engagement in climate action activities.
3. Support the functionality, outreach, and impact of Youth Climate Clubs under the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) by embedding practical monitoring tools, promoting peer learning, and showcasing successful models to enhance young people’s engagement in climate actions.
4. Coordinate youth participation in national and international climate platforms.
5. Develop and implement a monitoring and documentation system for youth-led climate action, capturing quantitative data (e.g., number of trees planted, volume of waste recycled), and increasing visibility through storytelling and digital tools.

Methodology:

The Climate change and youth engagement consultant will be based in Cairo, Egypt to support the climate related activities within the Adolescent Development and Participation unit (ADAP) and work closely with MoYS to ensure quality implementation of environment and climate change activities.

ACTIVITIES, DELIVERABLES AND TIMELINES, PLUS BUDGET PER DELIVERABLE:

Objective 1: Strengthen the capacity of young people and youth-led groups to design, implement, and measure the impact of grassroots climate actions.

 Activities:

1.1  Conduct youth capacity needs assessments to identify knowledge gaps and training priorities related to climate action, advocacy, and leadership.

1.2  Support the design and implementation of tailored training programs on environment and climate change and green action quantification methods.

1.3  Facilitate mentorship and coaching sessions to support young people in applying their knowledge in real-world contexts, engaging in advocacy efforts, and using monitoring tools in their own.

1.4  Support the implementation of capacity development programs for local young volunteers, facilitators, and peer educators involved in climate initiatives.

1.5  Initiate a green action tracking system that may include, but is not limited to, a Facebook page where participants can share their green actions, supported by mechanisms to collect and verify evidence of these activities.

Objective 2: Support the implementation and monitoring of the EGYouth 4 Climate Caravan and other youth engagement in climate action activities.

Activities:

2.1  Contribute to the design of a comprehensive action plan for the Climate Caravan, in collaboration with the MoYS, including routes, thematic focuses, and engagement strategies.

2.2  Coordinate field implementation of the Climate Caravan in collaboration with the MoYS, partners and local stakeholders.

2.3  Pilot the use of youth climate action monitoring tools and templates during Caravan events to test feasibility in real-world youth settings.

2.4  Collect and analyze data through field visits, youth feedback, and simplified surveys.

2.5  Identify opportunities for innovation and inclusion in youth outreach during the Caravan journey.

2.6  Align the Caravan activities with Youth Leaders’ Action (YLA) metric (will be provided) and ensure the achievement of the KPIs stated.

Objective 3: Support the functionality, outreach, and impact of Youth Climate Clubs under the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) by embedding practical monitoring tools, promoting peer learning, and showcasing successful models of youth led climate actions.

Activities:

3.1  Conduct assessments of Climate Clubs’ operational and capacity needs to inform targeted support.

3.2  Support the development of action plans and operational bylaws for each club, in collaboration with MoYS.

3.3  Provide technical support, mentorship, and access to quantification tools to help clubs track and report on their impact.

3.4  Facilitate peer learning and knowledge exchange between clubs at local and regional levels.
