Fuels Marketing Area Manager (Temporary – ~12-Month Assignment)
Pay: $116,400–$145,500 (salary)Location: Field-based (ideal candidate located near Upper Marlboro/Bowie, MD)
Territory: East of Washington, DC through Southern Maryland and across the Bay Bridge to the Stevensville, MD area
Start: May/June 2026
Assignment Length: Approximately 12 months
Schedule: Core hours Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM ET (flexibility required)Wills Group is seeking a Fuels Marketing Area Manager for a high-impact temporary leadership assignment. In this field-based role, you’ll support a territory of approximately 40–50 properties where Wills Group, Inc. owns the real estate or has fuel supply agreements.Your mission is to help independent business owners deliver industry-leading fuel experiences for our shared customers. You’ll do that by strengthening operator relationships, driving financial performance, and ensuring brand and operational excellence across your territory.

How you’ll make an impact
- Own territory performance across volume growth, site image, and financial results.
- Build strong operator relationships grounded in trust, integrity, and mutual respect.
- Maintain a strong retailer bench to maximize sales opportunity and support a “No Closed Stores” approach.
- Manage monthly financial performance including expenses, routine capital, and key performance metrics.
- Manage risk through company policies and procedures, including Accounts Receivable and credit decisions.
- Communicate programs, initiatives, and updates effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure administrative execution including damage claims, repair approvals, and documentation.
- Make sound territory decisions aligned with Wills Group values and financial objectives.
Principal accountabilities
- Achieve annual territory operating goals for volume, income, expenses, and EVA metrics.
- Maintain outstanding site image aligned to Shell Brand Standards, targeting a 95%–97% territory average.
- Ensure zero bad debts and full collection of damage claim losses.
- Ensure compliance with all Wills Group programs and promotions.
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree required; alternatively, 9+ years of equivalent progressive experience.
- 2–5 years of retail industry experience; fuels experience preferred.
- Experience in sales and/or account management; wholesale fuel, real estate, merchandise, or retail leadership preferred.
- Experience with P&L responsibility, territory accountability, and business growth.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the assigned region multiple days per week.
An ideal candidate will also have
- Experience working with retail and wholesale accounts and independent business owners.
- Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI.
- Basic understanding of facilities maintenance.
Availability and travel
- Regular travel within territory averaging approximately 4 days per week.
- Remaining time worked from home or headquarters in La Plata, MD.
- Occasional overnight or out-of-area travel may be required.
- Operators run a 24-hour business; occasional off-hours communication may be necessary.
