About the role

The Senior Surgical Technologist will be a vital member of the surgical team, responsible for preparing and processing surgical instruments and equipment. With a primary focus on pediatric care, this role requires expertise in various surgical specialties and a commitment to maintaining a high standard of patient care. This position requires flexibility to work across various UCSF Medical Center locations, including the Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland and Walnut Creek.

  • Select and set up instruments and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Function as an integral member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams.
  • Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during operations.
  • Maintain a sterile environment throughout surgical procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and implement service-specific equipment and procedures.
  • Serve as a resource for Surgical Technologists, providing guidance and support.
  • Ensure patient needs are met and foster a harmonious work environment.
  • Promote effective communication and cultural sensitivity within the team.
  • Adhere to privacy, confidentiality, and safety protocols.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and meet departmental targets.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years recent scrubbing clinical experience in an acute care operating room
  • Recent experience (within last two years) scrubbing in at least three service lines: General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Orthopedics/Spine, Otolaryngology/Airway, Plastics, or Cardiac
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least two surgical specialties
  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Certification for healthcare providers
  • High School Diploma; or equivalent experience
  • Graduate of a surgical technologist training program; or equivalent experience
  • The flexibility to work and orient at all UCSF Health locations

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist.

  • Pediatric experience desired

 

License/Certifications:

  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Certification for healthcare providers
