The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is a non-credit certificate program preparing completers to sit for the National Registry Exams in Sonography.
Position Overview:The Cardiac Clinical Coordinator and Scan lab Instructor is responsible for updating and teaching the scan lab course curriculum and managing the clinical course curriculum.
As Clinical Coordinator, the candidate manages all aspects of the cardiac clinical portion of the program, ensuring the program maintains an effective and relevant clinical curriculum, and managing the students’ clinical rotations, including ensuring equitable clinical experiences among all cardiac students, maintaining relationships with the volunteer clinical instructors, assessing student progress, and maintaining all clinical records.
As Scan Lab Instructor, the candidate is the psychomotor skill expert for the Cardiac specialty, teaching all protocols, scanning skills and techniques in alignment with the NEC and CAAHEP Standards as well as current clinical practices. In addition, this role will work with the Concentration Coordinator to coordinate the psychomotor with the didactic training, assess student progress, and maintain all clinical records.

Responsibilities:Clinical Experience Management
- Research, identify, manage, coordinate, and assign all aspects of student clinical experiences year-round.
- Maintain up-to-date pre-clinical onboarding processes for all clinical sites.
- Ensure equitable clinical experiences among students.
- Ensure each student’s ability to complete clinical competencies at assigned rotations, according to CAAHEP standards.
- Maintain professional relationships with clinical instructors to retain engagement with volunteer teaching.
- Conduct periodic clinical site visits to evaluate student progress and placement appropriateness.
- Identify and address any challenges or areas of concern related to the clinical internship to support student success.
- Provide counseling related to clinical internship as needed.
- Report any student issues pertaining to clinical rotations to the program director.
- Research, identify, and contact potential clinical sites to expand the number and variety of cardiac sites and support student enrichment.
- Maintain and evaluate all student clinical records in Trajecsys, including clinical hours, competencies, and evaluations (mid-rotation, end of each rotation, and as needed).
- Effectively utilize Blackboard for records, syllabi, clinical competencies, and grades to enhance student experience and success.
Cardiac Clinical Skills Instruction
- Teach cardiac clinical (psychomotor) skills in the scan lab.
- Regularly provide hands-on demonstration of basic and advanced scan protocols, performed via left-handed scanning.
- Provide technical development of scanning skills by teaching techniques and tips specific to cardiac scanning.
- Prepare students to perform proficiencies required by CAAHEP Standards, grade these proficiencies, and provide feedback for improvement.
- Observe students scanning in real-time to provide feedback and develop an action plan when significant challenges arise.
- Effectively utilize Blackboard for student records, syllabi, and grades.
Administrative Support and Program Participation
- Review supply needs of the scan lab.
- Create spreadsheets with student information, course evaluations, and surveys when necessary.
- Assist with admissions and interview processes for prospective students.
- File and maintain mandatory paperwork required by the program.
