Athletic Trainer

Reports to: Athletic Director
Position Overview
Greenville ISD is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Athletic Trainer to support the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes. This position is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries while working collaboratively with coaches, physicians, parents, and school personnel to ensure student-athletes receive appropriate care.
Primary Purpose
Provide athletic training services for student-athletes participating in district athletic programs. Assist in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries while promoting the overall health and safety of students.
Qualifications
Education and Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required
- Master's degree preferred
- Licensed Athletic Trainer through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) required
- Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC) required
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required
- Valid Texas driver's license required
Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques
- Knowledge of athletic training principles and best practices
- Knowledge of emergency medical procedures and protocols
- Ability to assess athletic injuries and provide appropriate care
- Ability to maintain accurate medical records and documentation
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with students, coaches, parents, physicians, and administrators
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Experience:
- Experience as a licensed athletic trainer preferred
- Experience working with secondary student-athletes preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Athletic Training Services
- Provide athletic training services for district athletic programs and student-athletes
- Evaluate athletic injuries and determine appropriate treatment plans
- Administer first aid and emergency care as needed
- Develop and implement injury prevention and rehabilitation programs
- Monitor and document student-athlete injuries, treatments, and recovery progress
Student-Athlete Health and Safety
- Assist in maintaining a safe environment for athletic participation
- Coordinate care and referrals with physicians and healthcare providers as needed
- Monitor student-athlete medical conditions and return-to-play protocols
- Maintain emergency action plans and assist with implementation during athletic events
Event Coverage and Support
- Provide athletic training coverage for practices, competitions, and athletic events as assigned
- Travel with athletic teams as needed
- Assist with preparation and maintenance of athletic training facilities and equipment
- Ensure availability and maintenance of first aid supplies and emergency equipment
Collaboration and Communication
- Communicate with coaches, parents, physicians, and administrators regarding student-athlete health and injury status
- Participate in meetings related to student-athlete health and safety
- Provide education to student-athletes and coaches regarding injury prevention, hydration, nutrition, and wellness
Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain accurate injury reports, treatment records, and required documentation
- Ensure compliance with district policies, UIL regulations, and applicable state and federal requirements
- Assist with maintaining required medical forms and athletic participation records
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in professional development and continuing education activities
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Support district athletic programs and initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise athletic training student aides and interns as assigned
