Mechanical Product Engineer

Work with Sales, and/or Project Manager’s, and Engineering to transform specifications and customer drawings into a functional final design with the selection and application of our product lines. Actively drive and manage the technical evaluation stage of the sales process. This is a position with technical knowledge and sales skills. All applications work is for mechanical and electrical systems for mission critical applications; specifically, the design and building of data centers.
Primary Responsibilities
• Strong knowledge of engineering theory, principles, practices and their application.
• Ability to efficiently use design engineering software applications (Autodesk Inventor 3D and AutoCAD 2D required, Revit and/or Navisworks preferred).
• Operation and maintenance in Autodesk Vault (or similar) PDM environment.
• Analyzing and interpreting complex structural, mechanical and electrical applications.
• Working knowledge of mechanical codes and regulations (AWS, ASME, UL, NEMA, etc.).
• Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEC, IEEE, etc.).
• General knowledge of international regulations.
• Highly skilled in Microsoft Windows environment and MS Office Suite tools.
• Serves customers by identifying their needs and engineering adaptations of products, equipment, and services.
• Prepares high level drawings and/or 3D models for quote and bid purposes.
• Design, specification and bid evaluation of mechanical and electrical equipment and systems.
• Work closely with design engineers to develop a solution-oriented approach to meet their project specific needs.
• Prepares detailed, accurate and cost competitive estimates and proposals, working with Sales, and/or Project Manager’s.
• Assignments regularly require the use of mathematical formulas to compute weights, center of gravity, load capacities, dimensions, quantities of material, fan and pump selections, etc.
• Selects required information from computer programs, and internet sites, precedents, manufacturers' catalogs, and technical guides.
• Independently resolves most of the problems encountered.
• Promotes a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization’s goals.
• Assist in providing feedback for and maintaining accuracy of various costing tools.
• Participate in sales and marketing activities to include industry meetings and conferences.
• Travel up to 5-10% of time.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Professional Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology required.
• HVAC design experience - 3 years required; 5 years preferred.
• Data center experience preferred
• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) experience - 3 years required; 5 years preferred.
• Daily engineering work, including mechanical and/or electrical - 7 years required; 10 years preferred.
• Design software expertise in Autodesk Inventor 3D - 1 years required; 3 years preferred.
• Design software expertise in AutoCAD 2D - 3 years required; 5 years preferred.
• Software expertise in Autodesk Vault (or similar) PDM - 1 year required; 3 years preferred.
• Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams - 7 years required; 10 years preferred.
• Ability to interpret customer’s notes & sketches, vendor/supplier drawings and cut sheets, as well as verbal directions for development into feasible designs as necessary.
• Ability to put out high quality work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to manage time and efforts toward completing designs on time and within budget is required.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience is highly preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
• Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.
• Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
