Summary
Under the direction of the Controller, the Accounting Manager plays a key role in the oversight of
the accounting and reporting function, producing accurate, quality and timely GAAP financial
reporting. The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading an accounting team that delivers
superior results, developing solutions to complex business problems and enhancing processes and
procedures to maximize efficiency while maintaining strong internal controls.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations
The essential functions are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and
abilities required to perform this job:
• Supervise and perform timely review of the workflow of the accounting team; responsible for
their daily operations, including task assignments and continuity plans based on ability,
opportunity and efficiency. Ensure adherence to the monthly and year end close calendars such
that all internal and external filing deadlines are met. Troubleshoots effectively and efficiently
• Carry out internal control activities in accordance with the close calendars to ensure accuracy
and completeness in the accounting records; offer design solutions and implement any
necessary control changes as required
• Fully understand the activity for the organizations divisions and service lines and the related
month end accounting processes
• Ensure CRJ staff understand financial controls by using efficient processes and procedures;
communicate and train staff as necessary
General Ledger and Financial Reporting
• Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger system, including journal entries, account
reconciliations, and month-end close processes
• Prepare, review and approve journal entries, ensuring proper coding and documentation of
transactions
• Assist in the preparation, review and compilation of financial schedules for Uniform Guidance
(UG), financial statement audits, 990, Uniform Financial Reporting (UFR), 3ABC and other reports
as necessary
Accounting Operations Management
• Implement best practices and automation tools to streamline accounting operations
• Oversee Accountants workflow ensuring ongoing compliance with accounting
policies/procedures, financial transactions and financial reporting
• Oversee AP and AR teams in processing invoices, payments, and collections in a timely and
accurate manner
• Oversee revenue recognition and procedures related to federal/state contracts and grants and
Uniform Guidelines
• Oversee Client Specialist team in processing, reconciliation and internal controls relevant to
client transactions
Financial Compliance and Audit Support
• Coordinate and support internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and
explanations
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations, reporting requirements, and government filings
• Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud
• Support the Controller in the development and maintenance of accounting policies and
procedures in accordance with best practices and industry standards.
Team Leadership and Development
• Mentor accounting staff, providing guidance, training and performance feedback
• Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment to achieve departmental
objectives
• Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively to ensure workload balance and goal attainment
• Demonstrate strong independent problem-solving skills; possesses excellent communications
skills to be able to work effectively with cross lines of business to resolve any matters efficiently.
• Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions
• Work on other projects as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college (CPA certification a
plus)
• Five plus years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years in a managerial or
supervisory role
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles and financial reporting
• Not for Profit and/or Government contract accounting experience a plus
• Demonstrated time management, problem-solving and attention to detail
• Able to meet deadlines, without sacrifice of detail or accuracy
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software (experience in NetSuite is a plus)
• Commitment to CRJ’s mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationship
with colleagues and partners
• Exposure to Federal form 990, MA Form PC, MA 3ABC form and MA Uniform Financial report a
plus
• Ability to flex work schedule required to meet deadlines beyond routine workflow.
