Educator 1
The Educator 1 will be primarily responsible for facilitating engaging, interactive gallery experiences, including design-based learning programs and exhibits. This role engages with school groups, families, and many other diverse audiences on a daily basis to provide a unique, hands-on learning experience. This non-exempt (hourly) role reports to the Senior Manager, Facilitated Experiences.
This Seasonal role for serving our field trips with an expected end date of June 5th 2026, to align with operational needs to serve our guests during the academic year. Please note currently employee applicants will be required to go through an interview process to ensure fair hiring practices.
Responsibilities
- Lead experiences with diverse audiences in our most open-ended program spaces using our Design Challenge Learning facilitation style.
- Lead school programs as assigned during the school year.
- Support field trip group orientation process.
- Participate in training sessions to build and maintain facilitation and engagement skills.
- Maintain current knowledge about The Tech’s educational programs, membership options, special events, and other visitor-related information.
- Assist in training new staff and volunteers as needed.
- Report non-functioning exhibits, electronics, or lighting to the Engineering and Facilities staff in a timely manner.
- Complete additional related tasks or duties as assigned by the supervisor/manager.
Requirements and Skills
- Ability to engage and effectively communicate with diverse audiences in a variably-paced environment.
- Excellent customer service, public speaking, and listening skills.
- Experience working with youth in a traditional or non-traditional educational setting is required.
- A high school diploma or equivalent (such as a GED) is required. Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
Working Conditions and Schedule
- This is an on-site role.
- At least one weekend day shift per week is required. Other needed availability will vary based on The Tech’s operating schedule.
- Significant periods of standing and walking within an assigned space. Walking around while interacting with guests is an essential part of this job.
- Frequently move objects up to 25 lbs.
- Part time, Seasonal, flexible availability - 16-24 hours a week
Compensation: $23 per hour
