Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Grant Writer will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission by proactively seeking and securing crucial funding opportunities through government, corporate and private foundation grants. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned grant writer with a strategic outlook to take the initiative in researching, identifying and driving funding opportunities. Using a creative mindset, the Grant Writer will turn their deep knowledge of NORD’s programs and priorities into new ideas, connecting opportunities that align with NORD's mission. The Grant Writer will collaborate closely with program leaders, leveraging their expertise to craft compelling grant proposals and manage the entire grant life cycle.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Proactively identify, evaluate, and pursue funding opportunities, leading the development and writing of grant proposals to foundations and government agencies that align with NORD's mission and strategic plan.

Track grant opportunities as they are announced to determine their fit with NORD’s priorities.

Collaborate with program managers and subject matter experts to gather information and insights for grant proposals.

Lead collaborative discussions to align proposals with NORD's overarching goals and objectives.

Craft compelling and persuasive grant proposals, ensuring alignment with funder requirements and guidelines.

Manage the end-to-end process of proposal submission, including tracking deadlines, providing necessary documentation, and reconciliation.

Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with grant-making organizations and foundations.

Communicate effectively with funders to gather additional information and provide updates on funded projects.

Manage and complete funder portal submissions of grant proposals.

Prepare and submit timely and accurate grant reports, detailing project outcomes and financial accountability.

Ensure compliance with reporting requirements outlined by grantors.

Keep informed of NORD’s programs, services and priorities as well as the broader rare disease community in order to apply a holistic view when evaluating potential opportunities.

Perform other duties and functions as assigned.

 

Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree in a related field.

7-10 years of experience in grant writing for non-profit organizations.

Demonstrated success in securing grants from diverse sources, including independent and family foundations, corporations, and government entities.

Knowledge of the healthcare sector is a plus.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Exceptional writing and editing skills, with meticulous attention to detail.

In-depth understanding of the grant application process and best practices.

Familiarity with the landscape of rare diseases and health-related issues.

Experience in remote or hybrid work environments.

Excellent technical skills including Microsoft Office & Teams, Salesforce or other CRM, FR50 or other development software.

Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams on proposal and budget development while maintaining development timelines.


Working Conditions

This position may be fully on-site or hybrid to any NORD location. Occasional travel is required.
