Clinical Laboratory Services provides an array of timely and accurate diagnostic testing and other services to Baptist Health Corbin's patients, and to other patients and organizations in support of the facilities mission, vision and strategic priorities.
The Medical Technologist prepares, performs, and records testing procedures in accordance with established criteria for various sections of the Clinical Laboratory. The role involves performing routine test procedures, assisting in the training of new staff and students, supporting instrument maintenance, and ensuring proper inventory management. The MLT processes quality control data, communicates test results and lab alert values to physicians, nurses, and clients, and collects specimens. Additionally, the MLT participates in continuing education and proficiency surveys, reports any instrument or procedural failures, and ensures accurate sample processing from identification to result verification.
Description:
Performs accurate laboratory testing on blood and body fluids across all complexity levels.
Follows established protocols for specimen collection, processing, analysis, and result reporting.
Communicates test results and critical values accurately and in a timely manner.
Performs quality control, equipment calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective actions as needed.
Ensures compliance with safety, infection control, PPE, confidentiality, and regulatory standards.
Maintains a clean, safe work environment and manages laboratory supplies and reagents.
Participates in quality improvement activities, proficiency testing, and laboratory quality programs.
Supports training, competency validation, continuing education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related science required.
No prior experience required.
Two years of college coursework in biology and chemistry plus completion of an accredited Medical Technology or related science program may substitute for the degree requirement when eligible for certification.
MLS certification by ASCP or AMT required; certification must be obtained within one year of hire if not already held.
Certification as MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), CLS (NCA), or equivalent preferred.
