Job Description
New River Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under a state-wide system of 23 community colleges. The college is located on a one-hundred plus acre site at the intersection of U.S. Routes 11 and 100 in Dublin, Virginia with an instructional site in Christiansburg. The campus provides modern, well-equipped facilities for the career technical education programs as well as for the college transfer programs. Approximately 4,000 students comprise the student body.

Duties:
- Oversee all aspects of the team/program, including the administration, management, and planning for the team.
- Maintain a positive public image for the team and New River Community College.
- Create a healthy and safe environment for the team and ensure the well-being of individual players.
- Develop and implement an effective recruitment strategy both within and outside of NRCC’s service region.
- Maintain an appropriate roster size and ensure the retention of student athletes through their college career at NRCC.
- Develop proper channels of communication between the team, NRCC, and the public.
- Develop and implement team strategies & tactics.
- Provide instruction and individual skill development.
- Organize and execute team travel plans. Transport team to games using college vehicles as applicable.
- Develop an appropriate practice and game schedule for balanced, competitive play.
- Assist the Student Activities Advisor with budget management and the best utilization of resources.
- Maintain knowledge and compliance with all applicable NRCC, VCCS, and conference rules/regulations.
- Work with appropriate college officials to ensure student athletes meet the established eligibility requirements.
- Supervise the assistant coach.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications- In-depth knowledge of the rules, strategies, and tactics of softball.
- The administrative, organizational, and communication skills sufficient to coach a college softball team.
- The ability to teach the necessary individual player development skills and team strategies and tactics required for college softball.
- A valid Virginia driver’s license.
Additional factors that may be considered include:
Prior successful coaching experience at the college, high school, or travel/club level.
