Job Summary:
Under direct supervision, assists surgical team before, during, and after complex surgical procedures in the following specialties: Neurosurgical, Neuro-interventional. Position is responsible for organizing and overseeing the daily work activities of the Surgical Techs Specialty Provides expert support, assistance and maintenance of instruments and equipment. Performs procedures in accordance with approved techniques and standards and ensures competency of staff. Other duties include: orientation and mentoring of staff, problem-solving instrument and equipment issues and providing feedback for employee evaluations.
Position Responsibilities
Demonstrates ability to perform, under general supervision, the most complex procedures, specific to each hospital, in accordance with specifications set by departmental leadership.
Contributes to physician, staff and patient satisfaction and exceptional care by assisting with room set up, turnover, equipment, and all clinical support throughout shift. Advises leadership team on matters related to promotion of quality and safe patient care.
Assists and advises team members with the following: Set up of instruments, equipment, sterile table, case carts, supplies in preparation for procedures
Oversees instrument trays and inventory
Serves as a resource person to co-workers by providing functional support and direction with regard to surgical procedures performed in the department
Assesses and assists with maintenance of Doctor Preference Cards, including updating as necessary
Monitors peers' performance and coaches as needed to assure policies and procedures are being followed, in collaboration with surgery leadership. Trains and orients surgical technologists and/or registered nurses, and provides formal feedback to surgical leadership and perioperative educator on progress of orientation
Position Qualifications Required:
Required Experience: three (3) years of current operating room experience
Required Education: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required
Graduate of accredited school of Surgical Technology
Training / Certification / Licensure: Surgical Technologist Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assistants (NBSTSA) and/or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) preferred
BLS certification required
