Key Responsibilities
Facilities & Equipment Management
- Oversee daily operations for bus transit facilities, including maintenance bays, fueling stations, charging stations, wash bays, and storage facilities.
- Ensure optimal performance and upkeep of specialized systems, including:
- Koni bus lifts (inspection, service, compliance)
- Gasboy fueling systems (monitoring, calibration, leak detection)
- Electric bus charging stations (maintenance, vendor coordination, troubleshooting)
- Support the preventive maintenance programs for all transit facility equipment, ensuring asset reliability and extended lifecycle.
- Manage building systems (plumbing, electrical,) and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Strategic Planning & Project Oversight
- Support strategic facility planning, budgeting, and capital improvement projects.
- Apply operations management and business process reengineering to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Oversee major repairs, upgrades, and construction projects, ensuring quality standards, cost control, and adherence to timelines.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop a diverse team of maintenance personnel and contractors.
- Recognize and recruit top talent, hire strategically, and build high-performing teams.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, ADA, NFPA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Oversee safety programs and ensure all staff follow proper safety protocols.
- Conduct regular facility inspections and audits.
Data Management & Process Improvement
- Ensure accurate work order and asset records in the CMMS system.
- Monitor key performance metrics, analyze trends, and implement improvements.
- Manage old data cleanup projects to improve reporting accuracy and decision-making.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
· 7 to 10+ years of progressively responsible facilities management or related experience.
· Minimum 5+ years in managerial capacity leading a diverse union work force.
- Minimum 4+ years of strategic facilities and project management experience in a complex operational environment.
- Proven experience with specialized transit systems (Koni lifts, fueling systems, electric bus charging stations).
Skills & Competencies
- Strong project management, people leadership, and operational planning skills.
- Broad knowledge of construction, building maintenance, and mechanical systems (plumbing, electrical).
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; able to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong budgeting, cost control, and vendor management expertise.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, solve complex problems, and adapt established methods to new situations.
- Able to manage multiple priorities with speed, accuracy, and a focus on safety.
- High degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
Certifications (Preferred)
- OSHA 30 or equivalent safety training.
- Electrical or mechanical certifications.
- Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or equivalent professional designation.
