Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is an independent Registered Nurse position at the Escambia County Health Department (Escambia CHD) assigned to Clinical Nursing, primarily to the Immunization Program area, and may require assisting in other clinical programs under the direct supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor. This position works in a clinical setting but may require fieldwork.  Ensures that all data set(s) under this position’s responsibilities are available to those who need to know, protects the integrity of those assigned data set(s), and assists the Security Coordinator as needed to comply with policies and procedures described in Security Policy 3 - areas of responsibilities. Travel may be required.

 

This position will provide patient centered interactions:

• Respects patient and family values and expressed needs.
• Encourages patients/parents/guardians to practice positive preventative health-related behaviors.
• Communicates with their patients/parents/guardians in a culturally appropriate manner, in language and at a level that the patient understands.
• Greets each client and introduces self to client prior to each clinical visit.
• Maximizes clinic productivity and clinic flow by minimizing client wait times and by working efficiently.  Works closely with direct supervisor and other nurses to ensure all clients are taken care of in an expeditious manner.
• Communicates effectively with parents about age-appropriate vaccinations and follow-up care.
• Promotes and maintains health of individuals, families and community through appropriate preventative and rehabilitative measures.

 

This position will provide immunizations to both children and adults:

• Provides nursing in Immunization Clinic and Foreign Travel Clinic.

• Requires knowledge of routine immunization schedules, administration techniques, use of VIS statements, internal procedures, and computer system for data entry in HMS and FLSHOTS.
• Requires knowledge of vaccination requirements for international travel.
• Updates FLSHOTS prior to vaccination administration to eliminate wastage.
• Administers oral, intramuscular, internasal or subcutaneous vaccinations per established protocol.
• Provides educational materials and counseling to clients as indicated by health care needs.
• Documents administration of vaccination(s) as required by the program for every clinical visit, using FLSHOTS and HMS as appropriate.
• Reports any abnormal reactions to vaccinations to supervisor immediately and documents the event appropriately.
• Captures client services on encounter and HMS with clinical visit.
• Provides appropriate copies of immunization records to client at the end of every clinical visit.
