The Boeing Company is looking for a Senior Human Factors (HF) Engineer to join our team in Seal Beach, CA

The Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Maintenance Human Factors team provides implementation support to culturally diverse global customer airlines and other aviation organizations on a wide array of human factors and safety programs/processes. The team also leads or supports internal human factors and safety initiatives (e.g., Safety Management System) and innovation projects (e.g., Mixed Reality, maintenance digital transformation).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Apply Human Factors methodologies and best practices to analyze, develop, evaluate, and enhance BCA Customer Support products and services (e.g., aircraft maintenance manual).

  • Provide Maintenance and Ramp Human Factors support to customer airlines and maintenance organizations.

  • Develop and deliver Human Factors awareness and in-depth training courses for Boeing internal and external customers.

  • Collaborate with aviation maintainers, design engineers, and systems engineers to validate maintenance crew assumptions and to ensure that the maintenance data and maintenance user interfaces complement the cognitive, physical, sensory, and ergonomic capabilities of Boeing product maintainers.

  • Apply knowledge of human engineering tools and methods (e.g., task and workload analysis, digital human modeling, simulation, and prototyping, usability evaluation, statistical and human error analysis) to assist in the development, test and evaluation of safe and effective user interfaces.

  • Perform Human Factors evaluation and safety assessments, present findings and recommend mitigations.

  • Support Enterprise Human Factors Engineering and safety initiatives.

  • Works under general direction from management and technical leadership.

  • The candidate must be willing to travel domestic and internationally extensively (up to 50%).

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at our Seal Beach, CA location.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

  • 9+ years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 7+ years’ experience in Human Factors engineering.

  • 5+ years’ experience in Project Management.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Knowledge of industry, regulatory authorities (e.g., FAA, EASA, UK CAA) rules, regulations, handbooks and standards.

  • Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area.

  • Aviation Maintenance or Aviation Ground Operations work experience.

  • Experience with one or more of the following areas: research, experiment design, task analysis, usability testing, aircraft safety protocols, data collection and analysis, aircraft maintenance practices (or aircraft ground operation practices).

  • Human Modeling experience.

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Human Factors Engineering, Experimental Psychology, Industrial or Systems Engineering.

  • Professional certification in Human Factors Engineering and/or aviation.
