We are currently seeking applicants for a Property & Casualty Risk Engineer (PCRE) position. The PCRE operates within the Risk Engineering Services department and serves an integral role in supporting our underwriting groups as well as providing valued added services for our commercial insurance policy holders.
The position is based in Houston and primarily supports this market. Additional areas supported include Southwest and Central Texas including Austin, San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley. Less frequent work is performed in southern Louisiana including Baton Rouge, New Orleans and surrounding areas.
Outside of local and regional client engagement travel, this is a “work from home” position. The position requires overnight travel approximately 2-3 nights per month. Candidates would be expected to reside in or around the Houston metro area.
Description:
The primary focus of this position is to provide an understanding of a client’s operations to our underwriting team; counsel clients on best practices related to their existing operations and programs (fire protection, employee safety, fleet, facility maintenance, business continuation, product safety, etc.); assist clients with identifying hazards within their facilities and, as appropriate and provide recommendations for improved practices. The engineer is prepared to discuss and provide Chubb’s risk engineering services to meet client needs, reduce the risk profile and limit loss potential through activities such as business continuation planning, employee safety, training, office and industrial ergonomic assessments, product safety review and evaluation of building fire protection systems. On-site visits and virtual assessments with existing and prospective customers will be conducted and comprehensive technical reports will be completed that evaluate hazards and controls for adequate risk selection, pricing and application of underwriting techniques leading to profitable growth.
Day to day activities will include scheduling client visits/virtual meetings, processing client correspondence and inquiries, report completion and recommendation follow-up and coordination with claims and underwriting partners to insure we exceed service expectations and consistently support satisfactory risk selection and client retention.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in property, casualty, and worker's compensation insurance risk management and loss prevention functions, primarily focused on evaluating hazards and controls.
- Solid proficiency in hazard identification skills and safety controls in Property, General/Products Liability, Commercial Automobile & Worker's Compensation.
- Strong background and knowledge in Fire Protection and Property conservation is highly desired.
- Experience in upstream Oil & Gas industry preferred.
- Counseling and providing presentations to existing customers on a variety of insurance related topics.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Proficient customer interviewing techniques and technical report writing ability.
- Demonstrates strong & effective time management skills with the ability to function both independently and as an integral team member.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suites to include Excel and PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Industrial Engineering, Safety & Health, Biology, Chemistry, similar degrees, or relative work experience in the risk control/loss control field.
- Possessing relevant professional designations or certifications such as CSP or ARM is highly desirable.
