Fairview Hospital’s Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) delivers exceptional patient care to heart, vascular, trauma, neurology, orthopaedic, pulmonary, and gastrointestinal surgical patients. Caregivers within the SICU consider the use of state-of-the-art technology a priority when caring for patients and consistently use advanced technology such as ventilators, ventriculostomy, ICP monitoring, continuous renal placement therapy, intra-aortic balloon pumps, pulmonary artery catheters, continuous cardiac output monitoring, infusion pumps for multiple drips and new ergonomically sensitive equipment for patient mobility. As an RN in the SICU, you will participate in a residency core curriculum and provide direct nursing care, alongside a coach, in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

A caregiver in this role works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with weekend requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Participate in a residency core curriculum based on their individual learning needs.

• Provide direct nursing care, alongside a coach, in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

• Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care activities based on the following: acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability.

• Initiate and/or maintain interventions to assure continuity of safe/effective care for patients.

• Respond to data indicating risk to individual's health and initiates action to correct, reduce, or prevent the risk.

• Seek supervision, consultation, assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.

• Comply with established hospital/department personnel policies.

• Use communication strategies in order to achieve desirable outcomes.

• Document in patient's medical record according to established guidelines.

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 

• New grad or one year of current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting required for acute care settings

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
