Trainee-Administrative Internship-Supply Chain, Materials/Logistics-Mount Sinai Hospital-Hybrid-Full Time-Days
Position Summary:
Our Administration and Operations Summer Internship Program provides non-clinical (not patient facing) internship opportunities within hospital and corporate departments to high school, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. Our goal is to expose individuals to unique career pathways in healthcare leadership, management, and administrative fields while offering the tools, skills, and knowledge necessary to succeed within the industry.
Students are expected to participate in all ODI-sponsored activities, including educational sessions and panels, engagement events, and the Awards & Recognition Ceremony at the end of the summer.
Department: Supply Chain – Materials/Logistics
- Coordinate the activities of the offsite Supply Chain Logistics Operations including: Warehouse operations and Transportation operations to Hospitals and Alternate Care locations.
- Provide orientation, training and counsel to temporary and full-time warehouse labor, drivers and clerical.
- Monitor Operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts and government regulations.
- Order supplies and equipment as necessary following departmental guidelines and standards.
- May participate in the hiring, discharge, evaluation and, when necessary, discipline of employees.
- Maintain relationships with Purchasing, Sourcing, frequently used suppliers, trucking
- companies and common couriers; understand their resources and processes.
- Monitors inventory transactions and analyses the storeroom’s general ledger accounts to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all entries.
- Ensures that all financial and other documents are submitted to Accounts Payable and posted in the general ledger.
- Monitors accuracy of the interface to general ledger for inventory related transactions.
- Analyzes cost distribution of various cost centers and their relationship to the general ledger to ensure that information supplied by departments reconciles with the ledgers.
- Analyzes stock consumption and other reports to monitor storeroom inventory; makes recommendations for changes in amount of inventory ordered/reordered
Eligibility:
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program with an interest in pursuing a career in healthcare.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have a permanent resident card or VISA.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Attention to detail with strong organizational skills
- Moderate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and on teams as well as prioritize staff
