Required Skills/Knowledge

Effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
Must be able to climb stairs in response to emergency situations.
Must wear complete Metropolitan Police Department issued uniform to include carrying department issued radio while on duty
Must be able to work outdoors if necessary.
Ability to handle volatile situations under stressful conditions.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
Must possess excellent customer service skills.
Knowledge of the criminal code in Washington, DC.
Experience working as an emergency responder (law enforcement, fire/rescue, military).
Required Licenses and Certifications

Functional Accountabilities
Safety
- Perform productive security patrols of the hospital, garage and perimeter; recognize conditions which are or will compromise the security and/or safety of the organization and take immediate action to mitigate; proactively and consistently submit work orders to correct safety/security violation discovered during patrols.
- Immediately notify supervisors of security/safety-related problems or issues.
- Take proactive measures to mitigate thefts, disturbances and other criminal incidents.
- Check to ensure that visitors and staff members are wearing proper identification badges/passes; ensure that visitors are properly identified and proactively address issues with non-compliance with visitors which are observed during patrols; adhere to departmental and hospital policies, procedures and directives as it relates to the management and processing of visitors to the hospital.
- Adhere to post orders for all fixed and patrol positions.
- Ensure a timely and appropriate response for emergency situations.
- Ensure that the applicable policies, procedures and directives are followed according to the specifics of the emergency situation.
- Able to effectively de-escalate disruptive behavior.
- Able to remain in control of emotions and not take acting out behavior exhibited by others personally.
- Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
- Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
- Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation
- Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication
- Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers
- Attend carefully to important details - practicing Stop, Think, Act and Review in order to self-check behavior and performance
The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children’s National believes an individual’s base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children’s National compensation philosophy. T
