About the role

Arlington County’s Department of Environmental Services (DES) is hiring a Customer Service / Fleet Liaison to support the servicing of all County and APS light section vehicles. This position will work in the Equipment Bureau’s Administrative Section, which provides administrative support of the Bureau’s daily functions, and will report to the Equipment Bureau Chief. The Equipment Bureau is responsible for purchasing, inspecting, repairing, and replacing vehicles that support the wide variety of services provided by Arlington County and Arlington Public Schools.

 

Specific duties include:

  • Preparation of reports and associated scheduling of preventive maintenance;
  • Tracking, scheduling and completion of factory recalls;
  • Management and oversight of all County and APS vehicular accidents;
  • Assisting in efficient auctioning of surplus vehicles;
  • Managing Trades Center vehicle parking pass program;
  • Overseeing the installation and integration of GPS units;
  • Serving as customer service liaison; and
  • Providing technical expertise as needed with new vehicle upfitting.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Vehicle industry and equipment related knowledge and skills; and
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business/Public Administration, Automotive Technology, Automotive Engineering, Fleet Management/Operations or other directly related field; and
  • Some experience in fleet management and/or vehicle servicing.

Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Desirable:  Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Performing vehicle repairs; 
  • Working with multiple agencies and/or departments in determining vehicle needs and servicing methodologies; and
  • Using Microsoft Word and/or Excel to develop and maintain correspondence, spreadsheets, and other documents.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted.  It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Work Hours:  Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
