Santa Cruz Residential Recovery (SCRR): Located just outside of Downtown Santa Cruz, CA, in a historic Victorian home, SCRR offers a 23-bed co-ed substance use residential treatment program, serving clients for 30-90 days, based on individual needs. Staffed by a highly skilled and trained team, certified clinicians help clients focusing on issues surrounding recovery from substance use and co-occurring disorders.  Program activities include evidence-based trauma informed and cognitive behavior therapies, focused individual and group counseling, pro-social life skill building, mindfulness, and SUD treatment.

Job Summary:

We currently have a benefited full-time (40 hours/week) opening for a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN) at our Santa Cruz Residential Recovery (SCRR) site. Pay is dependent on licensure and experience ranging from $30-$40 per hour (LVN) and $40-$50 per hour (RN). The hours are Monday through Friday between business hours. There is an option for four 10-hour shifts, if preferred. This position does not require currently being on-call after-hours, weekends or holidays.

Under supervision of the Director of Nursing and working in close collaboration with the onsite Nurse Practitioner (NP), the SCRR nurse provides skilled nursing services within scope of practice to clients struggling with substance use disorders. The nurse performs ongoing assessments and monitoring of client’s health from time of admission until time of discharge, works closely with the onsite NP in assessing, starting, stabilizing and monitoring clients in need of Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT) for opioid and alcohol dependence, and collaborates with an interdisciplinary team within the organization and with providers/staff from different healthcare settings within the community.             

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. In collaboration with a team delivering integrated behavioral health treatment services, supports with care coordination through primary care establishment, access to dental services, referral coordination, medication reconciliation, and linkage to other resources.
  2. Recognizes care priorities and potential crises and responds appropriately.
  3. Assists clients in improving and maintaining stability by providing advocacy support and education.
  4. Adheres to required infection control and aseptic techniques in the delivery of care.
  5. Communicates closely with community healthcare providers to deliver integrated care and improve continuity.
  6. Observes, records and reports signs, symptoms and behaviors, including the physiological and psychological status of the client to their treatment team.
  7. Provides overdose prevention education to staff and clients.  
  8. Exhibits non-judgmental, empathetic and supportive approach when communicating.
  9. Meets MediCal billing requirements through appropriate documentation on EHR.
  10. Consistently uses clear, concise, and effective written and oral communication; complies with departmental policies when sharing/documenting relevant care data; promotes strict confidentiality and right to privacy.
