Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) accompanies those in need to foster resiliency, self-sufficiency, and access to opportunities by creating, connecting with, and engaging welcoming communities. Together, and with the help of partners and volunteers, we work to promote welcoming and compassionate communities.
The Resource Center serves a critical and integral role in providing an organized space for program participants across all agency programs to procure necessary basic needs items and services, as well as a drop-off site for receiving, tracking, and organizing all in-kind donations from various community partners across the DMV region.
The LSSNCA Resource Center and Store Assistant is responsible for providing high quality customer service through maintaining a clean working and shopping environment, ensuring consistent restocking of goods, and proper cashiering of sale items. The LSSNCA Resource Center and Store Assistant also supports the maintaining of proper inventories and the processing and documentation of donated goods. This position will also support as needed in relation to client-based services and volunteer oversight.
Essential Functions
• Provides excellent customer service to clients, volunteers, donors, community members, and agency staff.
• Greet all customers and assists shoppers and donors as needed.
• Continually monitor the shopping floor to assist customers and to prevent losses in retail space.
• Maintains clean working and volunteer spaces.
• Assists with donation intake and inventories.
• Cross train and support as needed with client-based services and volunteer oversight.
• Oversees front lobby reception desk, monitors incoming calls, and greets guests.
• Organizes donation inventory and support in keeping spaces orderly.
• Support as needed with on-site volunteerism oversight.
• Supports the delivery of basic needs supplies to clients and donation pick-ups.
• Assists with events and community outreach.
• Assists with opening/closing and monitoring the building for events or standard hours of operation.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• High-school diploma required.
• At least one year of experience in customer service and retail related positions.
• Strong operational skills and understanding of safety.
• Flexible and adaptable working style; ability to perform well in an entrepreneurial environment and self-manage projects to completion.
• Strong task management skills and ability to collaborate with others.
• Highly organized and rigorous attention to detail.
• Ability to multi-task and effectively manage time and deadlines.
• Exceptional writing and verbal communications skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for LSSNCA’s mission.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Preferred Skills
• Bilingual in Spanish or Dari
