Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Associate Director, Patient Assistance is strategic management of patient assistance programs that effectively and efficiently identify and address gaps in patient access to therapy.  This position reports to the Senior Director, Patient Assistance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Together with three other Associate Directors, responsible for day-to-day management of patient assistance programs ensuring effective and efficient vendor operations, fulfillment and customer service
  • Interfaces with IT, Medical, Access, Reimbursement Strategy and Support, Finance, Law, Policy, Tax, Customer Relations, Brand, Distribution and Technical Operations, to understand obstacles faced by underserved patients
  • Tracks progress against strategic objectives, monitors metrics, analyzes trends and proactively identifies operational risks/issues and solutions
  • Reviews, analyzes and makes determinations for escalations, patient appeals and refund/replacement requests; escalate and present extraordinary cases to management
  • Manages external agencies for development of specific projects including budget management for those projects
  • Manages supply chain issues as they relate to the patient journey through our program
  • Manages new product and new indication launches and into patient assistance programs and prepare for product loss of exclusivity that impacts patients in our programs
  • Engages with IT and data privacy on data feed development, IT mapping, website and SharePoint development
  • Develops and implements training to internal and external teams to ensure compliance with Patient Assistance policies and program business rules
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, ethics and integrity and contribute to a work environment that relies on the diversity of people, perspectives and experience
  • Monitor program metrics and review against invoice for all related charges; escalate to management as appropriate
  • This role will not have any direct reports; however, the successful candidate will be able to manage cross-functional teams and work effectively in a highly matrixed organization

Key Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Required)
  • Advance Degree (MBA, MS, Pharm.D, JD) a plus
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience within the pharmaceutical or related healthcare industry, commercial, regulatory or patient access experience is desirable
  • In-depth understanding of access programs for the uninsured and underinsured patient populations and the applicable laws and regulations (including FDA, FCA, IRA, privacy and tax) and relevant policies
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills as well as exceptional time and project management skills are required
  • This role will not have any direct reports; however, the successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of managing multiple, conflicting priorities in a rapidly evolving, fast paced, complex environment with successful outcomes
