MetaBurlingame, United Statesfull_timeVerifiedPosted 26 Feb 2026
About the role
As a Technical Program Manager on the XR Tech team at Meta, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of audio and sonic experiences across augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) products. You will lead cross-functional teams to design, develop, and integrate cutting-edge audio technologies — including spatial audio, acoustic sensing, active noise cancellation, voice interaction, and audio hardware/software co-design — that deliver immersive and natural user experiences. Your responsibilities will include managing complex programs across audio system architecture, signal processing pipelines, and acoustic component development, collaborating with internal and external partners, and driving innovation in how XR devices capture, process, and render sound. This role requires demonstrated technical expertise, strategic thinking, and extensive program management skills to deliver high-quality audio capabilities that define the next generation of XR products.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and delivery of audio and sonic technology programs in XRTech, spanning spatial audio rendering, acoustic sensing, microphone array processing, and voice interaction pipelines
* Manage end-to-end programs from early research and prototyping through productization, coordinating across hardware, firmware, software, acoustics, and perceptual science teams
* Drive audio system integration across XR product lines, ensuring coherent audio experiences from component selection through final system tuning and validation
* Manage projects with external suppliers and partners, from creating statements of work to driving final deliverables in collaboration with Operations, Business Development, Legal, and Procurement
* Evaluate suppliers' to meet acoustic and audio component requirements
* partner with the operations team to establish robust and scalable supply chain strategies for audio hardware
* Operate at different levels of abstraction, from high-level strategic planning (system architecture, technology selection, roadmap alignment, commercial partnerships) to tactical project management (prioritization, schedule creation, milestone definition and execution, and deliverable management)
* Break down the complexity of technical programs spanning acoustics, DSP, ML-based audio processing, and hardware integration to enable clear understanding of scope and deliverables across engineering, research, and leadership audiences
* Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, and cross-team dependency risks and drive creative solutions to manage them
* Identify resources needed and work closely with engineering and research leads to maintain full visibility of program schedules, dependencies, and potential roadblocks
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Acoustics, Audio Engineering, Signal Processing, Physics, or a similar technical field
* 10+ years as a technical program manager (or related role), with experience driving complex hardware/software programs
* Experience with program management methodologies like Agile, Phase-gate, and tools for tracking multi-team, multi-workstream initiatives
* Experience leading programs that span hardware, firmware, and software development — ideally involving audio or sensor systems
* Experience managing external vendors, suppliers, or contract manufacturers
* Demonstrated experience in cross-functional team communication, authoring and presenting technical documents, and synthesizing complex information into clear narratives to drive decisions and move initiatives forward Experience as a technical program manager (or related role) in audio systems, acoustics, spatial audio, or audio signal processing
* Experience in AR/VR, consumer electronics, smartphones, or wearable audio device programs
* Familiarity with acoustic measurement, audio DSP pipelines, ANC systems, or microphone, transducer technologies
* Understanding of perceptual audio quality evaluation and user-facing audio experience optimization
